Why Can't We Be More Open Minded?

If you scream louder than someone else, it does not make you right.

Can we take a moment to realize how closed minded our world is at this point in life? Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of open minded people in this world but it is very hard to find them. There is also a lot of closed minded people who are pretending to be someone they aren’t. Then there is just plain, closed minded people who aren’t afraid to share how closed minded they actually are. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and everyone wants to voice them. What I am asking is that instead of talking louder than everyone else, you sit back and listen, not just listen but comprehend what the opposing side is saying. I have experienced this on many levels. From the smaller level it’s like when you are in a group chat with your friends and you all can’t decide on a plan. Everyone wants to do their own thing most of the time and when someone brings up an idea you get answers like, “That sounds boring”. It comes down to not having a plan at all. I experience this on an everyday basis. Then there is the larger scale of problems in the world that ultimately come down to politics and the two sides that have very different views. Recently the Target Corporation decided to make their bathrooms multi gender. This will let female or male into the same bathroom. The two political sides beat heads every day at this problem. One will argue stating that it is an abomination saying that a little girl could be in the bathroom at the same time as an older male. One side also states that this male could have intentions of harming the little girl. Even though a sign stating that only females could be in the bathroom would not stop a male from coming after a little girl if he wanted to. Then there is the other side of the party that states any gender should be able to go where they please or where they feel comfortable. Sounds reasonable but not to everyone. The problem that I have with both sides of the parities is that one will not listen to the other. There are both pros and cons to any situation but most people tend to take a look at the negative side and be closed minded to anyone else’s opinions. Then there is the party that agrees with both sides or likes ideas from both sides. My experience with this party is that they mainly get beat down by both sides saying that they can’t make up their mind and that they don’t actually have a real opinion on the subject. Which in itself is much closed minded to communicate with someone that they don’t have an opinion or they need to be able to make up their mind in some sense. Obviously there are many problems going on in the world and as an 18 year old female I have been shut down by different generations because I am too young so I don’t actually have a valid opinion to some. As well as I have been listened to by some generations. People need to open their minds and realize that age and experience do not always go hand in hand. Just because I am younger does not mean they I do not have a voice. Just because you don’t agree with someone else’s opinions does not mean that you should speak louder. Just because something doesn’t go your way doesn’t mean that the plan will end horribly. All I am asking is that everyone be a little more open minded with different events going on because screaming louder to the problems of the world won’t help.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
