Why Camp Is Amazing

Camp is one of my favorite places on earth. It is a place where you can be whoever you want to be but most importantly be yourself.

I am sure everyone likes going to the beach everyday or hanging out with their friends or just being able to sleep in. My days consist of getting to play with tiny humans and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have been going to camp since I was two years old. I started at a day camp, switched to another day camp, went to sleepaway camp, worked at the same sleepaway camp, and then came back to work at another day camp. I couldn’t imagine spending my summers not in camp. Almost every amazing memory I have is from camp.

At the camp I work at right now, we have special days where we get to dress up as whatever it says on the calendar. They have Disney Day, Crazy hair day, Decades day, Silly sock day, Mustache Monday, “When I grow up” day, Twin day, Team Tuesday and so many more fun days! I love dressing up for the day because it's a place where you can dress up as crazy as you want and no one judges you because they are doing it too!

Today I got to watch little children, ages range from 2 to 5, run and play in the spray park at day camp (I am a lifeguard) and it made my day. I had the biggest smile on my face. I even joined them in playing tag for a little while. Camp is a place where it really isn't possible to be anything but happy. You have so many things and people around you that can instantaneously change your mood.

I went to sleepaway camp for almost ten years and, trust me when I say, there is nothing like sleepaway camp. Whoever says day camp is just like sleepaway camp, is lying. They are both really fun and amazing but nothing beats sleepaway. You spend seven or eight weeks pretty far from home with your friends. There are no parents (except some of the staff that are parents) and even they don’t act like parents. You get to sleep every night with your best friends and build bonds that just don't exist at day camp.

Camp is enjoyable for all ages and if you haven’t gone yet, you are truly missing out. Even working at camp is just as good. You get to do the same things as if you were a camper but you get paid to do it all! And even better, you get to play with tiny humans all day.

Camp is one of my happy places. If I wake up and I am not in the best mood, camp will always change that. I count down the days until I get to go back to camp.

Camp is the greatest place on earth.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
