Camp Friends are forever. Going to a Jewish sleep-away camp seems to be a right of passage for many Jewish teens from Florida, New York, and New Jersey. Camp is where I found my best friends in the entire world who I still talk to this day, despite the fact that we are miles apart. The 10 months that we waited to go back to camp each year prepared me to strengthen the long distance relationships that I still have with all of my camp friends today.
Now that I attend the University of Florida, one of my best friends is a girl who went to my camp. It's like we've known each other forever, even though we were in different friend groups. This is why camp friends are amazing college friends.
1. You have been through all of your awkward stages together.
2. You understand each other a lot more than your new friends.
3. You reminisce on all of the funny memories that you've shared.
4. Songs have the same meaning to the both of you.
5. You have no problems with sharing clothing with one another.
6. You have no problem with sharing snacks with one another.
7. You look out for each other during recruitment season and hope to find a sorority "just like camp."
8. You share many mutual friends, so Jewish geography isn't difficult.
9. You both appreciate competitive events such as intramural kickball and dodgeball because they remind you of color war.
10. You are extremely good at comforting each other when it comes down to homesickness because you have dealt with this in camp together.
11. Face-timing with other camp friends never fails to cheer you guys up.
12. You bond over the fact that eating greasy sorority house food is just like eating in the dining hall at camp.
13. No matter what battle you guys face together in college, whether it is boys, drama, or homesickness, you guys will always share a strong bond because your camping days will always have a special place in your heart.
From growing up together to facing college, you and your camp friends will always have the strongest bond because of the cherished memories that you all share. Going to sleep-away camp is extremely valuable because it helps individuals develop characteristics such as loyalty, honesty, and promise. Going to college with one of my camp friends was one of the biggest blessings that I could have ever asked for.
