There are so many young adults that are my age and younger that have no idea what is happening in the world. So many of these people, specifically teenagers and 20-something-year-olds, do not honestly care with what is happening in this planet.
Sad? Of course. But it's true. Young people would rather be caught up on social media, see who posted what on Instagram, what tweet is getting the most likes, what status someone posted on Facebook and what their friends are posting every day on Snapchat. Don't get me wrong—I do the same. But I also have learned how to balance social media with the news.
Young adults believe they know what is happening in the world because they see postings on social media. But they really don't. Social media allows people to post their opinion, allowing news outlets to be biased and allowing people to change what looks like the actual news story.
But I bet if you're my age, there is a high chance that you're not familiar with: Brussels, anti-terror raids underway, ISIS, Obama visiting Cuba, a British man arrested after posting anti-Muslim tweets on Brussels attacks, a naked photo of Donald Trump's wife leaked, Donald Trump retaliating and attacking Ted Cruz's wife, Senator Graham, "Another 911 is being planned," Pope washes refugees' feet during Holy Thursday tradition, officers rescue burning woman from car, heroin deaths now Homicides, etc.
If you weren't familiar with most of these new topics, you need to educate yourself. All you have to do is a simple step, turn on the TV, watch the news. You can easily watch the news online or read articles online. All you have to do is take 10 to 30 minutes out of your day to see what is happening around you.
You need to know what is happening around you. It is important to stay informed. Be aware.
Knowledge is power.
