In the spring I wrote an article about how this year's election was going to be purely a popularity contest. To quote one of the candidates, "Wrong!" This election is anything but a popularity contest! Our President for the next four years is going to be someone who we the people dislike the least.
First of all, I wasn't to comment on how these two candidates have even gotten here. It's amazing that we have narrowed it down to these two nominees. Polls show that Trump and Hillary are some of the most hated candidates ever.
Which brings me to the fact that this entire campaign is being run based on attacking the other side. At each debate, both parties simply yell at the other about what he/she won't do for the country. Hardly either of them advocate for their own contributions.
I believe everyone should vote if you are educated enough to, or support someone enough. If you have the power to, your vote is effective. Whether you choose either of these two candidates, or go with a third party, voting is something important. The argument I got the other day though however is the power in withholding your vote. And I agree with that too, but only if you're withholding because you simply do not like the candidates. We have the right to vote, or to not. And I believe as long as you are able to express the power of your vote in a meaningful way, I'm for it. The country needs people who care.
That being said, while this election displays an absurd amount of smearing and personal attacks, it's important to note that (most than likely) one of these two will be the leader of our country. The votes cast on November 8th (November 28th now?) will allow one of these two the highest office in the world. Which means, that one of these two figures will carry the entirety of his/her baggage into office.
That's a part that I feel like we don't understand. I've heard before, "just remember, one of these two will be in office." But people seem to forget that all of their issues and controversy will follow them as well.
Which is where we need to get our heads straight. Yes, they are both in the wrong in many ways. But whoever ends up leading our country we must support. We have to build our nation and allow America to prosper. We need to focus on the real issues instead of the scandals. While everyone has fun now talking about how she did this and he said that and whatever, we fail to realize that we have waaaaaaay more important problematic issues to solve.
So my question is, and this still aligns with your personal views, but needs to be asked anyway because we have gotten so caught up in this hatred and scandal. The media has, social media has, heck it seems like the majority of conversations aren't about any real material at all, but the continuation of mud-slinging that goes on.
They both have issues, but who's policies do you see effecting our country in a more positive way?
