“I have a low tolerance for people who complain about things but never do anything to change them. This led me to conclude that the single largest pool of untapped natural resources in this world is human good intentions that are never translated into actions” -Cindy Gallop
On Sunday, January 27, President Trump issued an executive order on immigration. After only seven days of him being in the oval office, he stated “To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. This is not about religion—this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order.”
The executive order bands travelers from Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, and Sudan from entering the United States. While I am a Trump supporter, I do not necessarily agree with the Muslim Ban. I understand that as a country we need to focus on ourselves and fix the issues that are ongoing within the United States, but I do believe it could be handled in a different manner.
The criticism has been unreal since Trump decided to replace attorney general, Sally Yates because she “betrayed” the Justice Department by standing up for her beliefs and not supporting the Muslim ban.
Following the advanced criticism, Trump defended his executive order by tweeting “If the ban were announced with a one week notice, the “bad” would rush into our country during that week. A lot of bad “dudes” out there."
Because of these recent events, more than half of America has been in an uproar and have decided to act; Seattle-Tacoma International Airport had about 3,000 protestors chanting “no hate” “immigrants welcome” to show their support against the ban.
With last week’s Women’s March protest in Washington D.C, one would think President Trump would begin to rethink his steps. Trump has been in office at this point for eleven days and has ordered more than five executive orders.
With all this political uproar, I never thought an uplifting article would surface.
For more than 100 years, the National Boy Scouts of America have followed strategic rules and regulations. However, Monday, Boy Scouts of America made an announcement,
"For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual's birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs," the organization said in a statement. "However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state."
This policy was brought to the attention of the National Boy Scouts of America after eight-year-old child, Joe Maldonado, was expelled for being transgendered, but was told he was let go because he did not “meet the requirements for the program.”
Tolerance is something taught (hopefully) at an extremely young age, tolerance is something we need, to cohesively live on Earth. While I do understand President Trumps’ beliefs about thinking of our country, he also need to listen to his people. The President is meant to represent the country in its entirety.
More than half of the United States is protesting our leader, President Trump what will you gain form this? More hate? I stand with President Trump, but as a supporter, I am beginning to lose my legs. Not everyone in this country agrees with the Trump presidency. Hell probably less than half of this country stands with President Trump, so I ask you Mr. President, please listen to the people who you are supposed to represent.
