When Writer's Block Attacks

It has come for all of us at one point or another.

If you're like me, you have a love for writing but sometimes you can't come up with ideas. More recently, I have been finding inspiration for my writing in every aspect of my life. It is pretty easy to write about pretty much anything. Even your writer's block can give you something to write about. I never thought I would be writing an article about writer's block but here I am.

Yes, I too suffer from writer's block from time to time. When I first started writing for "Odyssey" my only problem was coming up with topics for each week. It may seem simple enough, but my new motto has been "write what you know." Alright so some of you might not know what that means so let me specify: let's say I play baseball. I could write an article on how to prep before a game.

Though that type of article may apply to a specific audience only, it could still be an interesting topic to write on. Once I have a topic in mind I can go on and on about said topic.

Some things that give me inspiration to write about are the following:

Facebook

My newsfeed is always filled with all kinds of stuff to write about. Although the topics may not always be in the news, I think Facebook and social media in general is a great way to get the ball rolling if you have a case of writers block.

Lists

I love to write lists. Lists can pretty much consist of anything. You're favorite artists, books, movies and so on. Even though lists take a little bit longer to write, they're worth it in the long run.

And finally, conversations with others

Most of my article ideas usually come from conversations with other people. Talking to another person really helps me get ideas. Once you get those ideas, you can become unstoppable.

I know we all have writers block at some point, and it usually comes at the worst time ever. Should we give up and throw our devices out the window? No. Do we probably want to do that? Yep, that we do. It may not seem it right now, but eventually that writers block will go away, and whatever you're trying to write will be done and over with.

Think of it this way. When you're done writing, you can reward yourself with hours of Netflix. Who knows you may even find inspiration there. That's the funny thing about being inspired. We don't get a say in when or where it'll show up, but when it does your fingers better be ready because you know you're in for a good hour (or maybe more/less depending how fast of a typist you are) of writing your next masterpiece.

I hope this has helped you, and may the writing odds be ever in your favor.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
