College is tough in many ways. But one of the hardest things about being in college is when you get sick in college.
I have been sick on multiple occasions since being in college. My immune system has crumbled.
I am feeling poorly as I type this, but I have managed to compile a list of things to help when you are sick and not able to be home.
1. Break out your favorite pajamas and blanket.
You'll be glad that you did. We may be adults, but nothing says comfort like a blanket from home does.
2. It is perfectly okay to miss class and stay curled up in bed all day.
Email your professors and let them know that you are feeling ill and won't make it to class. Then, spend the rest of your day in bed relaxing. Take a day for yourself.
3. Movies. Movies are golden when you're sick and just want to be at home.
Break out the cheesy movies that no one will watch with you. Or turn on a random reality tv show. Keep yourself entertained in order to distract your mind. It may help you feel better, and it will at least distract you from getting homesick.
4. Find people who will bring you a can of soup (or four...thanks Big!)
Odds are if you let a friend know you feel sick, even if it is just so that they will send you a copy of their notes, someone will offer to bring you something. Whether it is Gatorade, ginger-ale, or soup. It will make you feel better to have friends taking care of you.
5. Call home.
Cliché, I know. But hey, it does help. I am a firm believer that no matter how old you are, deep down you just want to be at home with your mom when you are sick.
6. Facetime your pet back at home. They may ignore you, but it will help you feel comfort.
Dogs solve everything, don't they?!
7. Naps.
I am not a regular napper. However, when I am sick, I love to nap more than anything. I take multiple naps a day and still manage to be tired enough to sleep through the night. Your body needs rest, give in and sleep.
