We are all human, and there comes a point when our immune systems fails us. Being sick sucks: you feel like crap and all you want to do in curl up in a ball. Here are a few of the things I like to do when I’m under the weather.
- Drink tea. Liquids are very good for you when you are sick, so I tend to drink lots of tea. There are even some special teas that are made to soothe sore throats or help with calming down coughing. Personally my favorite is the Stash brand — they make some really good flavors.
- Watch Netflix. While I already do this on a daily basis, for some reason Netflix is so much better when you are sick. I usually watch my favorite Disney movies or TV shows.
- Sleep. The best thing is long naps. Also when you’re sick, sleep is the best thing for recovery.
- Take a walk. Sometimes getting some fresh air is the best. When I have a cold, I take a walk to clear my sinuses. Furthermore, it just makes me feel better and gives my muscles a stretch.
- Taking a hot shower. After feeling gross and grimy for days, it always feels nice to take a hot shower and wash away the dirtiness. It always makes me feel a little better and fresher in the end.
This week, Beloit College students are all returning from Fall Break, and with that comes new disease. I went back home to Michigan for Fall Break, and sadly caught a cold the day before I headed back to campus. I can just see the winter season coming with more illnesses and students passing on germs. My best advice for this flu season is to get a flu shot, wash your hands, and don’t share drinks with others.
