When It Rains, It Pours

A few simple words and their application to life.

When It Rains, It Pours

This is a saying my mother used pretty recently when referring to possible employers responding back to me. After I get one, I'll get another and the another and so on and so fourth. This was all after I had gotten a response from one of the many jobs I had applied to. Finally. After 2 months of applying to every possible job, 2 months of feeling hopeless,2 months of being ignored and rejected and being so poor all I could afford to do was clean and reorganize my room every 2 days (it is spotless, by the way). Finally I had gotten a response that didn't start with "We regret to inform you...". Now granted it wasn't a job offer but it was finally something positive (fingers crossed the interview goes well). Something that gave me a little more hope. The push that I needed to keep trying and to keep going. So when I told my mom about it she was really happy for me and said "watch now you are going to start hearing back from a bunch of other places because when it rains it pours." And the more I thought about it, the more I saw that this saying can apply to a lot of stuff in life. Sometimes it's really awesome stuff and sometimes it's not so great stuff. Ever have one of those weeks where it just seems like nothing is going your way? It's like one thing after another and you can't catch a break--when it rains it pours. Ever have one of those days where everything is going your way? Someone bought your coffee for you this morning, you got a promotion at work and you finally got asked out by that cute guy at the gym--when it rains it pours. I never noticed how much this saying actually applies to life. Even with negative and positive vibes. They always say if your surround yourself with negative people, you too will become more negative and vice versa with positive people. Your vibes bounce off of each other and you kinda form a bubble that's hard to break. I feel like the more negative you are or the more positive you are, the more negative/positive things will happen to you or the more happy/unhappy you'll end up being--when it rains it pours. I guess what I'm trying to get at with this is to try and be positive about all aspects in your life. Attitude is everything. You keep saying "Oh I probably won't get that job" then yeah, you probably won't because you are already counting yourself out. Try and keep it upbeat and happy because in the long run, good things will happen. Now I totally understand the rough days when you feel hopeless and worn out, cranky and angry. Those days are totally okay (trust me, I have those a lot). But just remember next time something good happens to you--you win some money on a lottery scratcher or you make a new friend--when it rains, it pours. The more positive vibes you rain on yourself and everyone else around you, the better the bubble you create for yourself and the people you love. More great things will pour, more opportunities with open up. I don't know if I'm making sense here but somehow thinking about this saying me to change my attitude a little. So, here's to hoping I get more interviews from the other 50+ jobs I've applied to recently.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
