Do you ever have those times when you just can't decide what kind of music you want to listen to? Or you know exactly the genre you want but your shuffle is just not having it? It's time to make some essential playlists that make it almost too easy to get around the fact that you can't pay for Spotify premium, but you still want to be able to pick every song you hear.Â
1. Workout/Angry Playlist: Everyone needs to get pumped up while working out because all those liars saying they love running on a treadmill are faking it. This is the kind of music that is sort of scary in the light of day, but when you are in a bad mood or on a run they make you feel like one of those ripped dudes from 300.
2. Songs that Remind You Of Home: This is the playlist you listen to when walking to class on a sunny day. The songs you want to hear when you are missing the good old days. It's all about good vibes and memories.Â
3. Sad Songs: Contrary to what people say, depressing music doesn't have to make you depressed. Sure, this kind of playlist is great for days when you are feeling down and want to indulge in a nice Kim Kardashianesque cry. Even better though is to listen to this music on a good day because then you realize it's actually really pretty and not so sad.Â
4. Instrumental Playlist: This playlist is not really what you are looking for at events with other people. It's the songs you can listen to when falling asleep or when you are studying and cannot be bothered with the deep lyrics of Taylor Swift.Â
5. Party Songs: Now this has got to have a wide range of songs because who even knows who might show up at your party. Of course, up-beat popular songs are key. The ones everyone knows even if they don't love them they sing along. With these though you must be sure to have some of those wedding type songs that get everyone feeling good. This is your "Come on Eileen" and "I'm Just a Kid" throwback moments that I am talking about.Â
6. Oldies: Now I know what you are thinking...this seems the same as a throwback playlist, but you are out of your element here buddy because they are way different. I am talking old oldies. The likes of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Jimmy Durante are the stars of this one. It's important to have one of these because not only do those guys kill it in every single song, but it's important to have some knowledge of musicians that are actually talented.
7. A Dad/Mom Playlist: The songs you know your dad showed you and that the two of you can jam to together. This usually includes the likes of ACDC, Hootie and the Blowfish, and The Who. And beware when you play The Who, your dad will be likely to make the joke "Who sings this?". When it comes to moms, this is when you can whip out the John Mayer and the show tunes because moms love to sing, and singing with moms is fun.
8. Good Signers Singing: I would hope all famous singers are good singers at heart, but there are some songs that you can actually hear the incredible voices some of these people have and you must be sure to have a playlist that showcases this. It reminds you that you are infinitely worse than them and that you will never be famous.Â
9. Finally and most importantly, the "Desert  Island Songs": This playlist is the most important, but by  far the toughest to choose. This is your playlist of songs that you would choose to listen to for the rest of your life if you got stranded on a desert island with one CD and an everlasting boom box. I don't care much what you put on this playlist because this is all about picking your favorites not the crowd pleasers.  (I say this assuming none of you people will be putting any Taylor Swift on this playlist)
Of course there are millions more playlists that you could make, but I figured I would throw out some that I think are pretty crucial for a successful iTunes.Â
