When you fall in love with your philanthropy, there’s probably nothing you can be more passionate about.
I fell in love with my sorority’s philanthropy long before recruitment even started. I went into recruitment already knowing about the philanthropies because the philanthropy and what each sorority does to support their organization was something that was going to help me choose my home. The Painted Turtle Camp is a camp for children who are ill or have a disorder that prevents them from going to a camp. How cool is that? But Delta Zeta’s other philanthropy is something that will either have me balling in the back corner or completely giddy whenever someone talks about it or a video comes on. The Starkey Hearing Foundation is by far the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
I have quickly fallen in love with the international company that raises awareness about hearing losses and gives people that cannot afford hearing aids the opportunity to hear again. They might even be giving someone the opportunity to hear for the first time. And I have been lucky enough to join an organization that supports that company! Never in my life did I imagine there would be an actual company doing exactly what I want to do.
I know I am not the only one who would be totally fine with hopping on a plane for the sole purpose of going to love on people and help out wherever I am needed. My heart yearns for all the little kids that are so excited about every small thing, and so grateful for everything they have been given. But my heart also yearns for loving on people and working with people who have hearing losses and speech disorders. And guess what? Starkey hearing foundation does all of that and more!
Starkey Hearing Foundation is where I want to be and what I want to do with the rest of my life. (Seriously, if they’ll hire me as a speech pathologist I would probably die from way too much excitement) I would like nothing more than to join a company that donates over 100,000 hearing aides a year, and performs over 100 global hearing missions every year. But for now, I get to support them and fundraise for them as a Delta Zeta. I couldn’t be happier to spend the rest of my collegiate years (and probably the rest of my life) raving about this magnificent company. So, when you fall in love with a philanthropy, you know you've probably picked the right place and found your forever home. I know I did.
