Point blank, society is ruining girls self-esteem. Girls think that they have to wear certain brands of clothes or wear loads of makeup just to be considered beautiful. They think that they have to look just like the models and other celebrities they see on TV that are promoted as beautiful. These "beautiful" celebrities on TV are often long legged, fit and very well dressed, and this is what society's idea of beauty has become.
When girls don't meet society's expectation it has a very dramatic impact on their self-esteem. Girls will see themselves as less beautiful or not beautiful at all and this can cause them to become depressed. Society needs to stop promoting beauty as something that has to be bought. Makeup and clothing industries target girls by implying that wearing their products will make them look more beautiful and attractive. Well, I think it's time we put an end to that.
Girls need to know that being themselves is acceptable, and when they don't wear makeup and expensive clothes, they are just as beautiful as when they do. Girls are beautiful with or without these material things, and we need to make that known. Girls need to know that beauty goes beyond what's seen on the outside. Inner beauty is something that is often overlooked in today's society, but it's just as—or more—important than external beauty.
When someone says that you are "beautiful on the inside" it's usually taken as "you're ugly but very sweet." Well, you can be beautiful on the inside without being ugly on the outside. Inner beauty is often over looked, and people don't think of it as important, but it is. Inner beauty can make or break a person. Personality and character are extremely important when determining how beautiful someone is. Having inner beauty is being kind, compassionate and just an overall good person. When you have a bad attitude and are rude all the time that can be considered "ugly."
So let's take a stand to stop letting society tell us that we have to wear a whole bunch of makeup and expensive clothes, instead, let's show them our inner beauty. Let's stop letting society decide what the standard of beauty is. Let's start focusing on inner beauty and stop spending so much time obsessing over external beauty. Let's start realizing our own inner beauty so society can realize it too. Let's stop overlooking inner beauty. Let's start remembering that it's not what's on the outside that's important. At the end of the day remember, it's what's inside that counts.
