I don’t see it. So why do I have it? It wasn’t being taught. So how did I learn it? He sits there on the couch holding a device in his hand while shouting commands at the TV screen before him. He’s going on 30-years-old and he can’t see it. He has no wife, no job, no education and no home. Yet, he’s not the only one still living with his parents and he’s not the only one blind. He’s my brother, he’s my best friend, he’s my cousin and he’s lost.
Why have they forgotten? Who is it to blame? Faster and faster, they’re slipping away and few are safe. It’s right before our eyes, but others – most importantly, ourselves – push it away. How can we learn to fly if we cut our wings? How can we learn to walk if we never stop crawling? How can we learn to live if we keep killing ourselves?
Give us cards and we’ll build a house of cards broken by the wind. Give us bricks and we’ll build a brick house that stands forever. Teach our children so they can grow, but most importantly teach them so they can learn to be better.
We want our lives to improve, but we do nothing. Therefore, we don’t want it. Therefore, it’s not worth it. We’d rather sit behind the TV, live with our parents, never get married and never work at 30-years-old. Why? When did we stop dreaming? Why did we stop dreaming?
More than not, it’s you to blame. You cut your wings, your still crawling, and you need help. You, just like me weren’t taught and you’re blind. You, like many others.
There’s only one thing that can make us see
And it lives inside of you and me
It’s hard to unlock without a key
Yet not impossible, if meant to be
So why not give everyone the key
So everyone can see
Instead of only me
Teach our generation one thing: how to follow their dreams. Teach our generation motivation instead of pushing them in a specific direction. Allow them to fall and get back up because we can’t always be there to catch them when they fall. So many people aren’t motivated and it’s because no one is inspiring them or showing them how to discover who they are. Instead, they're showing them how to be someone else.
