I have been away from my siblings a lot lately, and I have been reminiscing on our childhood. God has blessed me with top notch parents who gave me a life that I am forever grateful for. He has also given me the pleasure (sometimes it feels like a curse, though!) of having siblings. They are my best friends most of the time and my least favorite people only some of the time. I wouldn't trade this life with them for anything...
Well, except for the fact that they are all a half a world away (or so it feels sometimes), and I miss them every single day. There are, though, things about them that I miss more than others...
1. Binging on Netflix shows together
Who else better to waste away the day with than your siblings? Plus, you have a system going: you pick a movie, they pick a movie, and so on.
2. Playing Super Mario (or any other game) together until 3 am
You know that you are going to miss those long nights of trying to beat the other person to coins in Mario... The one with the higher score does get the crown, and that is all that matters in life.
3. Having your own personal chauffer
As the younger sibling, it is always a good day when your older sibling drives you around. This might be one of the biggest things I miss about being away from my sisters.
4. Having someone to Sing (scream) songs with you in the car
If you're anything like my family, we sing and have our own personal concerts every time we get in the car. Whether it was singing the whole Hamilton soundtrack, island reggae, or Taylor Swift, I will always miss those drives with my sisters that turned into "who can sing the loudest/weirdest/longest"
5. Having someone who will laugh at/with you
You'll probably end up wishing you still had your siblings around to laugh at all the stupid things you do or the idiocy of the world in general. Not to mention, they aren't around to laugh at inside jokes with you
6. Being able to steal their clothes randomly
I no longer have another closet to raid when I don't like any of my clothes; I only have mine. (But that's what holidays are for. You steal before you leave and they can't do anything about it!)
7. Calling shotgun
Be honest, the race to the car to see who can get to the front seat first is something you will dearly miss. After all, riding in the front seat is not fun when you cannot call shotgun.
8. Taking ugly Snapchats of them
Screenshotting their snaps to you is just not the same when you can get an uglier face when you sneak pictures of them in person......... then again, I will not miss all those embarrassing pictures of me taken by my sisters
9. Arguing over the TV remote
because we all know that they will pick a stupid TV show that they know you hate if they get ahold of that channel-changer
10. Having someone be brutally honest with you (unlike anyone else will be)
You know that you are going to miss that they have always been honest with you. When everyone is being fake, you can always count on them to give it to you straight.
11. Fights
ADMIT IT: You know that you will absolutely miss those fights, because you knew that 10 minutes later, y'all would make up and bond over something. Plus, you know that fighting with them at least meant that you guys were together, and you'll start to miss that.
12. Having a live-in role model
With my sisters so far away from me, I miss having someone with me that I can look up to. Obviously, they can be perfectly great role models from afar, but maybe it is just because I miss them being close.
13. Late-night talks about life
After about a month of no late-night talks on the couch, you'll start really feeling the affect of being away from your siblings.
14. Being able to just hang out with them
Of everything, hanging out with my sisters is what I will miss the absolute most. But absence makes the heart grow fonder, which means that getting together for holidays and breaks will be so much better.
While I miss my siblings more than anything in the world, I know that we are all in the places we need to be. Yes, I miss so much about those times when all of us were together, but that's why we have technology: to fill the place of them. I can always just call them up at any time and I know that they will be there for me.
Love you sisters!!!
