As the new year approaches, I’m left wondering where 2015 went. A lot has happened and the month of December is a great time to reflect on all of the craziness that has been the previous year. This past year has had its ups and downs, but I’m excited to see what 2016 has in store.
“New year, new me,” said every generic white girl out there. Everyone, including the “new year, new me” people, always make crazy resolutions on how they want to improve over the next year. The new diet or workout regimen usually tends to be somewhat successful for January, and then some of February if you’re lucky, but never turns out to be what you want it to be. People try to leave everything that happened to them in the past, and create this brand new person that’ll tackle the new year with more poise and success than they could have ever dreamed of. The key to being successful is to learn from the past, and try your best to become a better person than ever before. For this reason I’m deciding to dump all of the resolutions for the New Year, but there are some things that I want to happen throughout 2016.
Along with adventure, I feel like a little bit of good luck could definitely be used. Luck can translate into getting the grades you’ve always wanted, to getting opportunities you could have never imagined. Luck can be the deciding factor between whether or not you get everything you’ve ever wanted.
Luck might be the push you need in a lot of circumstances, but when luck isn’t there, love is. Everyone should have a new year filled with love and hope. Family and friends will give you the strength you need when you can’t provide it for yourself. Harry Potter has taught me that love is a powerful thing, and everyone deserves to see a lot of it throughout 2016.
Most importantly, I want people to realize their potential. I know so many people who are wasting away while they could be doing so much more. They’re letting opportunities and people, slip through their fingers when that could have been the best thing to ever happen to them. I wish that everyone would realize what they have in front of them before it’s too late and everything just slips out of their reach.
In the new year, I hope for everyone to encounter happiness. No matter what that happiness may be for them. Whether it is adventure, luck, love, or realizing what they really have everyone deserves to reach their belief of happiness. It’s time to say goodbye to 2015, and welcome in 2016 with eager eyes and open hearts.
