What Trump Plans To Do

Here is my review of Trump's 100 day plan of action.

What Trump Plans To Do

With the election of Donald Trump, many Americans were faced with the uncertainty and anxiety over the future of the United States. Recently, President-elect Trump released his 100-day plan for his first days in office. Let's break it down. The full plan can be seen here.

Donald Trump:

What follows is my 100-day action plan to Make America Great Again. It is a contract between myself and the American voter — and begins with restoring honesty, accountability and change to Washington

Therefore, on the first day of my term of office, my administration will immediately pursue the following six measures to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, DC:

FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress.

This is something I don't quite agree with. If it is the will of the people, then members of Congress should be able to continually serve to the best of their abilities as long as they continue to satisfy their constituents.

SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health).

A resounding yes from this Republican right here. We don't need a behemoth of a federal bureaucracy that wastes taxpayer money and decreases the effectiveness of government.

THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated.

I am ambivalent about this one; why eliminate regulation simply for the sake of fulfilling a requirement? I believe all of our current regulation needs to be reexamined with or without new regulation being imposed.

FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service.

Yes, yes, can I say yes again? This would help end the octopus-like influence of corporations that give jobs to former officials. These officials are essentially an extension of the government but in business, granting them preferential treatment, extraordinary influence over policy, and ability to make backdoor deals with lawmakers.

FIFTH, a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.

This makes complete sense; those in the service of the United States government should not be aiding foreign governments.

SIXTH, a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections.

We don't need foreign powers meddling in our American affairs.

On the same day, I will begin taking the following 7 actions to protect American workers:

FIRST, I will announce my intention to renegotiate NAFTA or withdraw from the deal under Article 2205.

Meh, renegotiating NAFTA would possibly benefit the US; withdrawing from it completely would be idiotic. NAFTA has increased trade between the US, Canada, Mexico, decreased trade tariffs, and increased real wages.

SECOND, I will announce our withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership would export jobs out of the United States and give our competitors an advantage in the world market. Millions of working Americans are hurting and this trade agreement would not help them one bit.

THIRD, I will direct my Secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator.

Questionable. Many countries meddle with their currency, and Trump decided to bash China during his campaign in order to gain the support of the working middle class. China's currency has actually appreciated by 36% since 2005, making his claim rather baseless.

FOURTH, I will direct the Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative to identify all foreign trading abuses that unfairly impact American workers and direct them to use every tool under American and international law to end those abuses immediately.

Yes. There is simply no other possible response.

FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.

Yes. Restricting the growth of our energy reserves is detrimental to the energy dependency of the United States and will bring jobs and money back into America instead of benefiting foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia.

SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward.

Yes, all those roadblocks should be removed. The Pipeline and other energy infrastructure projects would benefit us greatly.

SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America's water and environmental infrastructure.

We don't actually send billions of dollars to the U.N. for climate change programs. I don't believe in any change in the current agreements.

Additionally, on the first day, I will take the following five actions to restore security and the constitutional rule of law:

FIRST, cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama.

Yes, unconstitutional is unconstitutional.

SECOND, begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

The United States needs a fitting replacement for Scalia, one of the greatest justices to ever sit in the Supreme Court.

THIRD, cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities.

I would love to love this, I really would, but I can't. Cities that protect illegal immigrants should be punished. Unfortunately, Trump hasn't specified which funds he would cut, which may hurt legal residents greatly.

FOURTH, begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won't take them back.

If you're an illegal immigrant, that's bad enough. If you commit a crime as well, you have no possible justification for being allowed to stay in this country. The countries of origin should be responsible for their citizens.

FIFTH, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.

Well, this is just sugar-coating the fact that Trump doesn't want to let in refugees or immigrants from the Middle East. I'm conflicted. On one hand, it is true that it is hard to get information about individuals who may never have been processed by their government, who lived off the grid, and who may have gaps in their history. However, it is hard to ignore the humanitarian aspect.

Next, I will work with Congress to introduce the following broader legislative measures and fight for their passage within the first 100 days of my Administration:

Middle Class Tax Relief And Simplification Act.

An economic plan designed to grow the economy 4% per year and create at least 25 million new jobs through massive tax reduction and simplification, in combination with trade reform, regulatory relief, and lifting the restrictions on American energy. The largest tax reductions are for the middle class. A middle-class family with 2 children will get a 35% tax cut. The current number of brackets will be reduced from 7 to 3, and tax forms will likewise be greatly simplified. The business rate will be lowered from 35 to 15 percent, and the trillions of dollars of American corporate money overseas can now be brought back at a 10 percent rate.

Yes, this would benefit individuals from every class, from top to bottom while also helping businesses.

End The Offshoring Act.

Establishes tariffs to discourage companies from laying off their workers in order to relocate in other countries and ship their products back to the U.S. tax-free.

Yes, companies shouldn't get away with ripping off the United States and its citizens by reaping the benefits of hurting our workers.

American Energy & Infrastructure Act.

Leverages public-private partnerships, and private investments through tax incentives, to spur $1 trillion in infrastructure investment over 10 years. It is revenue neutral.

Yes, we need to improve our ailing infrastructure. Our bridges, freeways, power grids, are not fitting of belonging in the greatest country on Earth.

School Choice And Education Opportunity Act.

Redirects education dollars to give parents the right to send their kid to the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school of their choice. Ends common core, brings education supervision to local communities. It expands vocational and technical education, and make 2 and 4-year college more affordable.

While this sounds great on paper, where is the money going to come from? Trump has no clear answer.

Repeal and Replace Obamacare Act.

Fully repeals Obamacare and replaces it with Health Savings Accounts, the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines, and lets states manage Medicaid funds. Reforms will also include cutting the red tape at the FDA: there are over 4,000 drugs awaiting approval, and we especially want to speed the approval of life-saving medications.

Yes, Obamacare has raised the premiums of millions of Americans including my own parents and needs to be replaced, or at least, greatly reformed. More competition is needed between insurance companies to lower prices.

Affordable Childcare and Eldercare Act.

Allows Americans to deduct childcare and elder care from their taxes, incentivizes employers to provide on-side childcare services, and creates tax-free Dependent Care Savings Accounts for both young and elderly dependents, with matching contributions for low-income families.

A thumbs up from me.

End Illegal Immigration Act Fully.

Funds the construction of a wall on our southern border with the full understanding that the country Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a 2-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a 5-year mandatory minimum for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanor convictions or two or more prior deportations; also reforms visa rules to enhance penalties for overstaying and to ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first.

Okay, this is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen. A wall is not the solution to our immigration problem. I do, however, agree with the mandatory minimums Trump suggests.

Restoring Community Safety Act.

Reduces surging crime, drugs and violence by creating a Task Force On Violent Crime and increasing funding for programs that train and assist local police; increases resources for federal law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors to dismantle criminal gangs and put violent offenders behind bars.

Hmm. Most of the policing in the U.S. is done on the state or local level. While I can agree with increasing funding to help local law enforcement, I think that increasing resources for federal policing is a waste of money.

Restoring National Security Act.

Rebuilds our military by eliminating the defense sequester and expanding military investment; provides Veterans with the ability to receive public VA treatment or attend the private doctor of their choice; protects our vital infrastructure from cyber-attack; establishes new screening procedures for immigration to ensure those who are admitted to our country support our people and our values.

Yes, the United States need a strong military to counter threats from ISIS, Russia, China, and any other entities that seeks to harm us. We also need to better our veterans; they deserve the best treatment we can give them.

Clean up Corruption in Washington Act.

Enacts new ethics reforms to Drain the Swamp and reduce the corrupting influence of special interests on our politics.

I think lawmakers on both sides on the aisle can agree that this is a good idea.

In conclusion, out of the 28 key proposals, I find myself in support of 18. That's not too bad, actually quite a bit more than expected. After looking at Trump's outline, I feel slightly reassured that the United States might be headed in the right direction. Whether that actually happens, we shall see.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
