The power of getting a "box of home" from your folks or friends is immeasurable. It fills you with a warm feeling that begins in your stomach and ends in your grin. It's honestly a moment. Who better to receive such a thoughtful package than a college student, especially a freshman? Here are just a few mailable items that would sure brighten up my or anyone else's day (ahem, parents and loved ones).

1. Homemade baked goods!

College kids definitely don't need help having access to surplus food, but 10/10 of students would still prefer something from their family than something from the dining hall. Nothing can replace homemade anything.

2. A self-care item.

This could be a face mask (sheet or clay) or body wash or... you know what? Just think LUSH.

3. Slippers and/or fuzzy socks.

This isn't Christmas when we were five. We will NOT be disappointed by receiving socks. We have been humbled. We appreciate these little necessary clothes to slip and slide around the halls; as true adults do.

4. A mug meant to be cupped in his/her paws.

This will get a lot of use. Caffeine and college courses are a joint-deal these days.

5. A journal and/or an adult coloring book.

The person getting these booklets are likely trying to function as an adult right now. They're learning constantly and would enjoy a break. Coloring books and journals are not just for the little kids in your life - they're for the "woman/man-child" just doing their best.

6. One bath bomb

I don't care what year it is, these are cool.

7. Something that smells all nice and seasonal.

Like a candle! (...but they probably aren't allowed to have a candle, so perhaps an essential oil, a lotion, a wad of cash, etc.)

8. Their absolute favorite snack or candy.

Hey, sugar, you're so sweet that you know what he/she likes and dislikes. Let's personalize this business while we are at it! Let him/her know that loving them is totally no truffle at all.

9. A giftcard to his/her local grocery store.

Walmart, H.E.B., or the luxurious and elusive Target are near many U.S. universities.

10. Tea packages.

I would like to introduce you to my good buds: Chamomile and Earl Grey. They're tea-rific and so are you!

11. One so-sweet-it'll-give-you-a-cavity handwritten card.

This part is where you can really communicate your feelings to the recipient. Personally, I believe that there's an art in crafting a handwritten letter that we should not quickly abandon. This timeless physical display of affection requires unplugging into creativity and thoughtfulness!

You're so kind for even wanting to send him/her a care package in the first place. Hopefully, this list helped!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
