The fuss about chivalry and feminism is at an all-time high. Women are taking their rightful place in society and men are at a loss for what to do. Perhaps this is because no one is even close to on the same page about any of it. Men say "you can't have equality and expect us to buy all your taco bell too" while women rebuttal with "but chivalry, okay?" I'm not sure about you guys but something just seems off here so let me do the world a favor and clarify what chivalry is and should always have been.

First off chivalry is not and never has been men doing everything for women. Maybe some of us want a sugar daddy and maybe some guys are perfectly happy being that but there should never have been an expectation of it. Yes, back in the day when women couldn't work men provided for them monetarily but the difference was that those women did not just sit around the house and whine about not having the latest contouring makeup. They were fighting to be independent of men. Since "The Song of Roland" has widely been considered the description of the code of chivalry, here are the rules men AND women today should live by as described in it.

I. Fear God and maintain his church.

Believe whatever your heart desires as long as it does not hurt anyone else.

II. Serve the liege lord in valor and faith.

Probably just do what you can to not make the government angry with you. You know, do not commit tax fraud.

III. Protect the weak and defenseless.

Be nice to people and stand up for those who are not as strong as you.

IV. Give succor to widows and orphans.

What does succor even mean? Oh right, "give assistance or aid to." We all have unique abilities to help so put yours to use once in a while. It really is not painful.

V. Refrain from the wanton giving of offense.

Do not attack someone for no reason. Just to be clear, a girl wearing the same top as you does not count as a valid reason. Tell her she's pretty and Instagram a selfie about twinning.

VI. Live by honor and for glory.

Do something meaningful with your time. No, attending every function is not meaningful and neither is drinking more than all your friends. Although an argument could be made for it if you happened to also save a kitten from a tree.

VII. Despise pecuniary reward.

Do not accept money as a reward. Alright this one is a little tough. How about don't take money for something simple you did to be nice. If old Mrs. Higgenbothom two doors down is immobile and just really needs someone to shovel her driveway so the church can deliver her meals easier DO NOT accept payment unless it's homemade fudge.

VIII. Fight for the welfare of all.

Here it is, the part where they said feminism alone is not even cool. Yes, I agree that even in the year 2016 it is not always easy to be a woman and hell yes, I agree that it sure seems easier to be a man sometimes but let's be real we ALL just need a little more compassion and tolerance. Write that down because it is pure gold.

IX. Obey those placed in authority.

I mean we did kind of put them there. Whether or not you chose to vote or give a teacher a degree a lot of other people supported it and now you just have to accept it. But also do not let authority abuse you or their power.

X. Guard the honor of fellow knights

Do not let your friends do dumb stuff. Unless it's in the pursuit of pizza, jawbreakers or a new puppy in which case my address is 1111 Stanford Ave. Please drop off said puppy between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:57 pm tomorrow.

XI. Eschew unfairness and deceit.

Secrets do not make friends. Hazing is bad.

XII. Keep faith.

Never lose hope for everything you want out of life, for everything your loved ones want, and for everything humanity desperately needs like Chipotle delivery.

XIII. At all times speak the truth.

Interestingly, if you always tell the truth you never have to remember what you said. To be fair though, if your mom makes you dinner having forgotten that you are on a diet or you no longer like it, just eat it and tell her it was wonderful. She deserves that.

XIV. Persevere to the end in any enterprise begun.

Never, under any circumstance, quit or give up something that is important to you. If you want to be a doctor, do it. If you want to host a Youtube channel based solely on your insanely hilarious ability to reenact episodes of Adventure Time through sock puppets, DO IT. Also, if you happen to actually do that send me the link.

XV. Respect the honor of women.

So this must be where our current idea of chivalry came from. Continue to respect women because trust me it is not easy but also recognize that everyone has struggles, even men. Be mindful of them and never judge or antagonize anyone over them.

XVI. Never refuse a challenge from an equal.

I am not 100 percent sure how exactly this fits into our society today but I am leaving it because if someone challenges you to a duel your only option is to accept.

XVII. Never turn the back on a foe.

Know your competition and never lose sight of the fact that they will destroy you if given the opportunity. Seriously, Perry the platypus never lets Dr. Doofensmirtz win so you can't either.

I'm not sure where along the way holding a door open for a gal became synonymous with chivalry or how either began to represent courting a potential mate but the bottom line is that's wrong and people who think that way are wrong.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
