What People DON'T Tell You About College
Ohio University

Finally it's the summer, the summer before your freshman year of college, and it's time for your college orientation. You see posts about what college is going to be like, how you should act, what to do, what not to do, and most annoyingly, posts on how to live your life so you succeed like these random people you don't know.

Let me tell you something: this is the most exciting time of your life, you will be so lit beyond belief. The summer leading up to your first year of college will have you feeling emotions you didn't even think were real. When you finally get to campus for the first real time for your orientation, and you feel what it's really like to be a part of your school, that's when you know you've made it. You're going to be told really dumb things like statistics on good studying habits, good eating habits, passive aggressive ways of telling you how they know they can't tell you not to drink, but if you do, it's the end of the world, and how excited they are about taking all of your money away from you.

I just finished my freshman year of college and all I ever heard was "go to class, study, get good grades, get involved, graduate." But that's not what college is about. Sure, you're there to get an education and make a living, but you're also there to be stupid, figure out what it's like it be on your own, get really randomly drunk on a Tuesday night and live.

Trust me, it's OK if you skip a class, it's OK if you don't study every single night, there is literally no need to be in the library until 4 A.M. studying for your finals, it's a tad bit of overkill. As a freshman I did some pretty dumb things, but I turned out all right. I used these nine months to live, learn and become a more confident person. That is what college is about.

So yes, I encourage you to get involved. Hell yes, I encourage you to go out and get liquor pitchers on a Wednesday night when you know you have an 8 A.M. the next morning. I encourage you to not wash your clothes until you run out of underwear (because laundry is annoying, especially if you live on the fourth floor with no elevator). I encourage you to have that crush on the boy that's three years older than you who has girls wrapped around his finger. I encourage you to live, class of 2020, because if you don't, you might miss out on the best four years of your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
