Many suffer from a feeling of never-ending loneliness. Just imagine you’re new to a school, new friendships aren’t coming easy, and nothing seems to give. While there are some healthy options, there are some unhealthy ones that seem to be a quicker fix.
The first one might be to pick up a drink. Let me be the first to tell you — DON’T DO IT! Being on a college campus makes alcohol extremely easy to access. The last thing you want to do is become dependent on it. Every time that lonesome feeling comes hovering, you’re running to the fridge for some alcohol to get rid of it. In the long run, addiction is possible and could make feeling alone the least of your problems.
Secondly, a lot of college students try new things when they get to school which a lot of the times includes drugs. A lot more severe than alcohol, drugs are something you do not want to get into. While a pill, a dose, a line, or a blunt may numb the pain temporarily, its end results are not worth it. A high for the moment can ultimately lead to situations much worse.
Lastly, make sure you’re not isolating. It may be easy to blame feeling lonely on your surroundings, but you never know. Maybe you’re putting yourself in a lonely position. Little things like chatting with your roommates or starting a conversation with a classmate can lead to friendships. Overall, it’s just better to give things a try before you assume the loner role.
