So, it's getting close to Thanksgiving and everyone wants to know what you're thankful for. It's the typical Thanksgiving question: "What are you most thankful for?"
Well, I am most thankful for all of the people who have been in my life, whether it was for a few moments or for years. I've learned many lessons from everyone. I can even remember as far back as grade school, I learned so much from the friends I had and lessons that I hadn't realized I received until I was old even to recognize them as such.
Throughout our lives, we meet people who will come and go or stay, people who will enter into our lives, shake it up, and change the person whom we thought we were--the person we were before we learned that we've got some changes to make. Sometimes it's hard to let people go, but I've come to realize that some people just aren't in our lives for a permanent stay, and that's fine, we've got to let them teach us what they are there to teach us.
I believe that everything happens for a reason. From this belief, I have found it a bit easier to accept a loss, but to also leave an open door for people to enter into my life. I am a fan of learning things about myself through the eyes of others, things that will encourage and push me to being the brightest self that I can possibly be. Sometimes to be our best selves, we have to let others in. This is a key part of life.
When people would ask what I'm thankful for, I remember my younger self writing down the normal things "I'm thankful for my mother, and my grandmother...etc." and I especially am, but I thankful, as a whole, for everyone that I have come across. Even the people who have small roles in our lives make up a huge part of our growing. I remember a boy, no older than 12, asked me if I needed help when I was stocking the beer cooler at work. Like the good employee that I am, I rejected the help with a delightful smile on my face and asked if he needed help finding anything. The boy said no, and proceeded to help me stock the beers. He even made his younger brother hold the cooler door open until we were completely finished. This child stayed right there until I was done stocking the entire beer cooler and only then, did he leave. This kid taught me so much about chivalry, respect, kindness and so on! At that moment, I was so proud of his parents for raising him to be such a positive light on others' lives.
I'm so thankful for the people who are constantly in my live teaching me lessons that I would have otherwise, never learned.
Now, what are you thankful for?
