10 Things I'm Thankful For

With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought I'd get a head start on the list of the things I am thankful for. I'd like to have a concrete idea before reporting to the family when we go around the dinner table at our Thanksgiving feast.

1. Great friends

I'm thankful for my friends that are there when I need a good laugh, a venting session or anything in general. It's always important to have people that are there for you unconditionally. They're my family when I'm 1,000 miles away from my family at home, and for that I am forever thankful.

2. FOOOOOD!

It doesn't show by my skinniness, but I LOVE FOOD. I have literally been counting down the days until I can go home and devour everything on the dining room table. Cowan just isn't doing it for me down here. I need some real food in my life!

3. Cheerleading

Basketball will always be the first sport I fell in love with, but I'm thankful for the new found passion cheer has brought into my life. Who would have thought that I would allow my best friend to throw me up in a one-man stunt?!?! Cheerleaders are incredible!

4. Rob Gronkowki

*insert heart eyes emoji* I mean, not much has to be explained here. As a Patriots fan, of course I'm thankful for all of the touchdowns Gronk has scored and all of the footballs he has spiked. He's #87 on the field, but #1 in my heart.

5. Justin Bieber

*insert more heart eyes emojis* Is it okay to have two #1's in your heart? I have proudly been a belieber for a long time now, no shame in my game. It makes me so happy that people are now starting to appreciate bae and his music.

6. Lotion

Have you ever sat and really thought about what our life would be like without lotion? Quite dry actually. For some reason this popped into my mind when writing this, but now that I think about it, I'm so thankful that lotion saves me every day from walking around as an ashy mess.

7. Warm weather

This is a picture my Titi (aunt) sent me from Puerto Rico. She sent it just as Kentucky started to make it's transition from warm to cold weather. I don't think I've ever been so jealous in my life. It's inevitable that I'll have to face the cold weather and snow that either Kentucky or Boston will bring, but I am just thankful that I have warm weather to look forward to in the following months.

8. Spanish

I am thankful for this language, the food and the people. Spanish is now going to be my major and I could not be more content. I thoroughly enjoy learning about the Spanish language and culture, and I could not be more excited for all the opportunities being bilingual will create for me.

9. Education

As much as I complain about the endless amount of homework I have, I'm thankful to be getting an education at a higher level. Some people aren't able to continue their education for whatever reason, but I'm thankful to Centre College for being a stepping stone so I can get where I want to be in life. Education is key.

10. Family

Last but not least, I'm thankful for my family. I am who I am today because of them. They push me to be better. We may be the wackiest, craziest, funniest bunch, but I would not have it any other way.

I could go on and on about all of the things that I am thankful for because I am blessed beyond belief, but I will leave things here. It's important to remember that I am not thankful for all of these things just on Thanksgiving day, but that I am appreciative of them everyday.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
