Let's Learn From Past Generations

The millennials are the people born from 1980-2000 which is the generation that was born once the Internet was well established and were able to witness September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York City. Millennials are the generation that are supposed to take over and lead, but the millennials aren't stepping up and don't want to lead.

Currently, baby boomers and Generation X are in control of most high government jobs (U.S. Senators, Congress and Cabinet Members). If you are from the pasts generations you've probably witnessed events like WWII, the moon landing and the Cold War. Thanks to those events, the coming generation was able to learn and try to be better.

Why am I writing about the Generation Gap

between the baby boomers and millennials? Why is it important for the millennials to pay attention and learn from past generations? The reason I'm writing this is because I believe that my generation the "millennials," are asleep and have stopped dreaming. If you look at previous generations you notice that they were dreamers, achievers and they wanted to be the best of the best.

Currently I'm attending Full Sail

and I'm on spring break. I decided to fly to Puerto Rico and talk to my uncles and aunts from my father's side that were born in the 1940s. As I sat down and listened to them talk about how they saw the world and how they worked for everything without complaints, I started to become ashamed. Here's a generation that didn't have the technology or opportunities we have and they were able to accomplish greatness.

Let me introduce to you from left to right; Ruben Robles and Saul Robles two businessmen from the '60s and '70s who dropped out of school and were able to raise a family, build many successful businesses and live a fulfilling life. They were able to accomplish this without any higher education or help from there parents. They saw an opportunity, took the risk and fought for what they wanted. Let's fast-forward to 2016 and the rising generation. It's a shame to see what's happening especially in America where you have about 80 percent of millennials supporting Bernie Sanders; which by his own words he says he's a democrat socialist and capitalism is not a good thing. What's a democratic socialist? A democratic socialist is a political ideology advocating a democratic political system alongside a socialist economic system.

We have seen from history that socialism does not work and my generation is about to throw everything away because they, like all the socialist programs are being promised by presidential candidates. Is this how my generation wants to be remembered? Do we want history to say that the reason freedom and capitalism were lost was because the millennials were to lazy and selfish to fight for the next generation. That's one thing that the millennials have forgotten. We have forgotten about the next generation and how much they will dislike us because they weren't able to experience the same freedom and opportunities we have. I write this to tell my generation that we can do it and we must do it — not for us but for our kids and grandkids.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
