Everyone said we would regret it and bicker. Of course we would, anyone that you live with you will bicker with. That wouldn’t matter if it was my best friend since middle school or a complete stranger who became my roommate. That’s just a part of life. They thought we relied and depended on each other too much. It seemed a bit sad that we didn’t want to separate after high school and experience this next phase of life together. They weren’t sure if we would make it or if it would end. It did end, but not for bad reasons. Everything comes to an end.
We had such a good experience. We met in sixth grade, but became closer in eighth. When it came time to decide on colleges, we really had no idea what we should look for. They said we would get on each other's nerves because we knew just the right buttons to push. They said we wouldn’t be friends anymore, some were jealous of our bond and some of those same people thought that we would be annoying to everyone else with all of our inside jokes. We would learn new things about this person since we have never lived with them before and the entire friendship changes when everything between the two of you is shared. It really is like a marriage or partnership.
As the typical college student enters college at the age of 18, here are 18 perks of rooming with your best friend (some still apply for strangers who become roommates, as well…as many eventually become best friends).
1. You don’t have to worry about finding a roommate.
2. You have someone who already knows you a lot better than strangers (which is what college is full of).
3. There’s someone there that you feel comfortable having an attitude with when you’ve had a bad day.

4. They’ll tell you when you need to shower.

5. They’ll let you sleep naked.
6. They’ll adjust to your habit of sleeping with a window open, even in the dead of winter.
7. They’ll adapt to your insomnia.
8. They’ll listen to your Pandora stations, particularly hood/rap music.
9. Knowing each other's sleep patterns / schedule.
10. Texting each other during class and planning a nap when you both get back (bonus points for blinds down and phones on silent).
11. Setting alarms for each other if the other one will be awake first
12. Never eating without the other if you know they haven’t eaten yet!
13. When you’re both already in bed and don’t want to get out to shut the light for bed, so she volunteers for your sanity.
14. When you know each other's entire class schedule and plan every meal / activity in between and after classes.
15. When your roommate isn’t in the room and you realize how much you appreciate their presence and just the simple things like their existence (which you sometimes can’t stand).
16. Their food, snacks, Keurig coffee maker, clothes, deodorant, hair straightener and basically anything else of theirs in the room being yours just as much as it is theirs.
17. Sharing almost every second of life together makes all these millions of insignificant moments become true bonding between the two of you.
