Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lawrence, Malala Yousafzai, Hillary Clinton, Tina Fey, Anna Wintour, Ellen Degeneres, the list could go on and on. Whether you know these names or like these women doesn't matter. What matters is what they stand for and the paths they have paved for so many other women. These are just a small handful of the women who have shown us to stand our ground and take what we want. Our mothers taught us strength, sisters to be outspoken and our best friends to be ourselves. Being a woman is not about fragility anymore, it is about using your voice and presence to make the world notice you and fear all you can do.
Being a woman is about independence. It is about standing your ground whether you are with those who believe in you or if you are alone. It is about voicing your opinion on what matters and shoving your passions into the faces of those who scoff at you. Womanhood is about staying true to who you are minus any social stigmas that may be thrown our way.
Being a woman is abut strength; to hold your head high and your standards even higher. People will look down upon you for not being the right fit for the jobs or not being capable because of your male counter parts, but that doesn't matter because it's the new era and women are strong and may do whatever they please.
Being a woman is about pride. We have so much potential flowing through our veins that is knocked down every second by society. We are taught to put on lipstick before we are taught to build a Lego set. Pink shoved in our face even if we prefer blue. Told no because we wanted to play baseball rather than dolls. Show your true passions to the world and be so proud of them no one an argue. Be the CEO or the lab tech or the fashion designer or even the athlete. Be what you want because this is the first time we have ever seen that women are doing what they want.
Being a woman is about unity. Stand together and support each other. Build up rather than emotionally break down your fellow women. Change starts within women to women and not men to women. We see the sides of each other that men do not and know the hard path it is to the top. Stand by the sides of those who need it and cheer when we succeed, even if it is a small one.
As women, we are in a time when it's no longer a dream for women to be anything other than a house wife, it's a reality. We are not only mothers and wives but, politicians, talk show hosts, comedians, police officers, chefs, CEOs and all the other positions we could never be before. Being a woman is about carrying the power and pride of all women before us who paved our paths, then having them help us break the class ceiling that has been shielding us for too long. Being a woman in this era is about raw power and leadership, then utilizing it to our full potential. This is the time of the woman. Be loud, be proud, and be heard.
