Little sister.
Sometimes that is a word you would rather not be labeled with, and other times it is a word that gives you an odd feeling of pride and joy. For me, it is certainly a word I love to be associated with.
Having older sisters has certainly shaped me into the person I am today. They were the ones who taught me how to put on makeup, which conveniently allowed me to bypass the entire "ringed eyeliner" stage in middle school. They were the ones who had all the teachers before me, which was sometimes a blessing, but oftentimes left some teachers with a sour taste in their mouths. They were the ones who “broke in” my parents. They were also the ones who got caught sneaking out of the house or throwing parties, which ultimately made it impossible for me to ever get away with anything even remotely sneaky.
They are the women I can count on every day. I know that I can call any of them at any time of day, and they will pick up the phone and listen to what I am upset or excited about. They are the ones I call when my day is going great, and they are there to pick me up when I am having a terrible day. They got me through and continue to console me through the loss of our mother. They got me through my few years of college by giving me advice about things they did or did not do. They are the ones who would come over and do my hair and makeup for dances. They are the ones I dance around the kitchen singing to old Carole King songs with. They are the ones I love having wine nights with when we’re all home for the holidays and being goofy.
My sisters have always been in my corner. They have supported me in everything I have chosen to do. They are oftentimes my voice of reason, even when it is something I don’t really want to hear. They are the women who will have my back on everything, even if they don’t always believe it is my best decision.
Thank you to all the sisters out there. You are such an inspiration to us little sisters, and, whether you know it or not, you have changed our lives. And for that we are forever grateful.
I love you guys.
Love,
Your Baby Sister
