Urban Dictionary's definition of a true friend is:
"A true friend is someone who has touched your heart and will stay there. Someone you care for, who cares for you. Someone you can do the stupidest things around and always be forgiven. Someone you'll instantly remember in 10 years because they are in your heart and not just your mind. They have the ability to change you, even if they don't. They will be etched in your memories forever."
This definition of a true friend could not be any more perfect. The most important lesson I have learned in my early 20s is that true friends are hard to find. Friends come and go, but true friends always stay. When you find a true friend, keep them. Keep them and lock them up so you don't have to share them with anyone else (just kidding). But really, when you realize you have found a true friend, you need to cherish them because they do not come along that often.
College has helped me realize who my true friends are, and I have met some my closest and truest friends while being in college. I'm not saying I have only met true friends here, because I came into college with a few true friends, but as you get older and find yourself, you also find out who your true friends are.
So when writing this article, I'm thinking of how lucky and blessed I am to have true friends in my life and these are some things that they constantly do that makes cherish their friendship so much…
A true friend is someone who always has your back.
A true friend ALWAYS wants the best for you.
A true friend forgives.
A true friend is loyal.
A true friend is someone who avoids drama at all costs.
A true friend is a good listener.
A true friend is someone you picture being in your future wedding.
A true friend is always there during the good times and the bad.
A true friend doesn't hold grudges.
A true friend will make you laugh.
A true friend will listen when you cry.
A true friend is someone you can call at 3:00 a.m. when you just want to talk.
A true friend will NEVER leave your life.
A true friend loves you like you're family.
Being in my early 20s has made me realize who my true friends are and made me realize how blessed I am to have met people that I know are going to stay in my life forever. When you think you have found yourself a true friend, don't let a little drama get in the way of a beautiful friendship. Cherish your true friends because, at the end of the day, we all need someone to talk to and count on.
