The first Amazon Go grocery store has recently opened up in Seattle, Washington and it has many wondering what exactly this is going to mean for the future. Built compactly underneath the company's headquarters one can find the first ever "Just Walk Out" grocery store where no cashiers are necessary.
With the two-day shipping feat available via Amazon Prime, in addition to the movies and music the fortune 500 company also offers, it is safe to say that Amazon has really been setting the bar for quite some time now. Consumers are officially hooked and this trend will seemingly continue for many years to come.
This grocery store proves yet again how Amazon continually impresses the public and keeps bringing innovation to the forefront. No lines, no waiting around to check out — honestly it sounds too good to be true.
With any new technologically inclined invention, however, there are always a few complications. A CNBC reporter testing out Amazon Go states they accidentally walked out without a yogurt being added to their virtual cart. While I am sure minor flaws like this will continue for a little bit, overall Amazon provides exceptional customer service and errors like this will certainly be taken care of.
According to the commercial Amazon released introducing “Amazon Go,” this futuristic store has been in the works for four years. The first initial commercial broadcasted back in December of 2016 via Youtube and finally, after several years of work, this vision has become a reality.
Combining the technology feats used in the self-driving cars, Amazon was able to invent an app that allows you to enter the store, scan your phone as you would going through a terminal, put said phone away (for hands-free shopping), and shop as you would normally. There is no need for grocery carts as you can put the products right into a bag of your own. Anything you pick up is automatically sensed and added to your online cart.
The “Just Walk Out” technology is simply incredible, and I am anxious to see if this high-tech shopping experience will thrive and multiply to more locations across the country.
