Before this summer I had never gone on vacation without my parents. I'm so used to them making sure all the flights are booked or the car has gas in it that I was a little bit worried when my friend and I decided to drive down to South Carolina by ourselves. However, it turned out to be one of the best trips of my life. The freedom you have when you don't have to worry about what your parents want to do is actually fantastic. These are some of the things that happen when decide to go to a cool place without your family:
1. You have to plan out what you're going to do every day instead of doing what your parents planned.
2. And then pay for it.
3. Which is painful.
4. Like stubbing your toe on the coffee table 20 times in a row painful.
5. You all have to try to wake up before noon so you don't sleep half of the day away.
6. Someone always forgets something.
7. The car rides are so much better than rides with your family.
8. You and your friends can listen to the most ratchet music and don't have to worry about your mom complaining.
9. You're not forced to sit with your parents during happy hour for what feels like 5 million days.
10. Some nights it's more fun to stay in and hangout.
11. You have people besides your mother giving you honest to goodness opinions about what you're wearing.
12. Jokes on jokes on jokes.
13. Depending on where you are, you can fake accents that might stick with you a little after vacation is over.
14. No one wants to pay for anything but you have to pay for everything.
15. By the end of it you truly understand the meaning of being a broke college kid.
16. Someone becomes the photographer of the trip and everyone gets a new profile picture.
17. Your mom will text you and remind you that you should call her and send her pictures of what you're doing.
18. Your dad creeps on your debit card statement and questions everything you buy.
19. You eat whatever you want, whenever you want because your parents aren't there to judge or tell you no.
20. You and your friends make memories that will last a lifetime and your friendship will be stronger than ever.
