Before we continue, I would just like to clarify that I went to an Arts school for high school, so we didn't have sports. This may be why I have a.) only been to a college football game once, and that was before I was even in college and b.) still have no idea what it is.
Here's a few things that was going through my mind during a football game:
There's no way he wears those shoes to anything but a football game.
The shoes were bright yellow. I've never been a big fan of yellow in the first place, but these were just ugly. I'm assuming he was rooting for my school, but if he was a true supporter, he would know that he needed gold shoes, not yellow. But I digress. In short, the shoes were ugly. You couldn't pay me to wear them. But, that is clearly the extent people are willing to go in order to support a football team.
What's going on?/Why are we clapping?
I grew up on basketball, ok? I've just never understood football. It clearly has the word foot in it, but I only saw the players kick the ball during the game a handful of times. At least basketball has word basket in it and it makes sense.
I was excited to go to the game because I heard that it would be fun, but I was surrounded by old people and whenever I asked questions, apparently I asked them too loudly for Karen (probably not her real name) who would sneer at me through her Prada sunglasses before looking at her husband.
This happened three times. We got to the game late, so I was asking what quarter we were in, which I thought was a valid question. I then asked the number of my friend's boyfriend because I knew he was on the team, but there are a lot of players.
The last question I asked, also valid, was what the heck was the opposing team's mascot? I'm not going to write it here because I don't want them to be embarrassed, but we literally had to look it up and it still made absolutely no sense.
I didn't actually ask anyone why they were clapping. I simply looked around, noticed people were clapping, and joined.
Is it over?
Now I've been through some long basketball games. I've endured four overtimes before. But this game should have come with a warning. The football game that I attended seemed like it lasted forever. It was so hot outside. After the game, I was so physically drained that I slept for four hours.
Throughout the game, I was also asking if it was over because my school's team was blowing the other team out of the water. I mean, I don't even think they had a point and we had around 30. So there wasn't a lot of excitement which, and I'm just guessing, was because we had "won" a long time ago.
All in all, it was fun. I wasn't expecting it to be so entertaining. Was I entertained by the actual football game? No. Will I go again? Yes.
