What Criminal Minds Has Taught Me

In my opinion, this is by far the best crime show on television. It is extremely well made, includes interesting characters and bases the context of many episodes on true stories. The FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit uses a combination of science and psychology to catch the world’s most dangerous serial killers. It is the grossest, scariest and most alarming TV show on television, so prepare to be hooked instantly! "Criminal Minds" will teach you important life skills, such as how to pay attention to detail, how to follow your instincts, how to be less prone to attacks and that every murderer/attacker out there has a reason behind their cruel actions. It will also make you believe that you are never safe and that everyone around you is a possible psychopath.

Here are a few more things the show has convinced me to believe:

  1. Like I said before, you’re literally never safe and neither is your family. Neither are animals.
  2. Never go to a college party.
  3. Or a library.
  4. Or a bank.
  5. Or even your own house for that matter.
  6. Everyone around you is a possible suspect.
  7. You’re more prone to be abducted, murdered, raped, etc. by someone you know.
  8. Don’t ever open your door when you aren’t expecting anyone.
  9. Do not; I repeat DO NOT go on a run at night.
  10. Rabies is more dangerous than you think and yes, you will get it.
  11. If someone offers you a ride, they will kill you.
  12. Attractive fathers are almost never innocent.
  13. Never become a prostitute.
  14. Don’t do drugs, drink or anything else immoral, really.
  15. Don’t piss off your neighbor or boss.
  16. Don’t ever stay in a motel or go to one.
  17. At least two murders will happen every show and one lucky actor will be saved.
  18. Don’t participate in online chat rooms or post your location on social media.
  19. Teenagers are crazier than we think.
  20. Always have a cell phone on you.
  21. Never let yourself be in a building or house that has no clear exit. Also, always have an escape plan.
  22. Malls aren’t safe and the kiosk guy will murder you.
  23. Everyone is smarter than you.
  24. Garcia can find anything and Reed can remember everything.
  25. Don’t hold a grudge—that person might murder you one day.
  26. Don’t live in tunnels to save money.
  27. If you have children, they will get kidnapped.
  28. If you watch TV alone at night, a serial killer will murder you.
  29. Don’t take selfies because there was a teenage murderer that killed people for just taking pictures. So basically, just throw out your iPhone.
  30. Trust no one.

My addiction to this show has made me more self-aware of my surroundings while also making me afraid to go anywhere, including my own kitchen, for fear that a serial killer will find me. If you have anxiety, I advise you not to watch this, but if you’re interested in solving real crime with the hot Derek Morgan and boyfriend of your dreams, Spencer Reid, then sign up for a Netflix subscription immediately.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
