No matter who your favorite team is (other than the Cubs or Indians) you can't deny how epic the World Series was. The Chicago Cubs, without a World Series Championship for 108 years and the Cleveland Indians without a World Series Championship in 68 years. Either way, a team is ending a huge drought. The Cleveland Indians swept the Boston Red Sox who looked to be the favorite coming into the playoffs. The Indians then only took five games to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays. Having only lost one game the entire postseason heading into the World Series they weren't prepared in having their backs against the wall like the Cubs had to deal with.
First and foremost, congratulations to the Chicago Cubs on the World Series victory. It is not easy to win a professional team sports championship. Second, to the Cleveland Indians, you were the unfortunate result of the Cleveland Cavaliers making a 3-1 comeback against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals and going to town on Warriors fans. The karma in this situation is unreal.
Furthermore, the starting pitching was very thin. Having to rely on Kluber, Tomlin and Bauer to start on short rest is a lot to ask. Very few pitchers are able to do it and when you're facing the red hot Chicago Cubs you were asking for it. The fact that the Indians were up 3-1 in the series and couldn't close the deal is also sad. The Cubs were poised to win it all this year and the Indians had the chance to play spoiler and they didn't. They were so close but blew it.
I'm just going to give a shout out to Rajai Davis. With the Indians down 6-4 in the bottom of the 8th Rajai Davis hits a two-run home run to tie the game. The Cubs eventually retook the lead in the top of the 10th inning with an 8-6 lead. They went into the bottom of the 10th and who comes up? Rajai Davis. Davis hits an RBI single to make it a one-run game, but the Cubs held on to win it.
As a Mets fan, I understand what it's like to have those magical years and then they don't go as planned. You just have to focus on 2017 and that's it. Focus on what can be and not what have been. It's a lot of pressure to win a World Series and mistakes are even bigger in the World Series. Good luck Indians and GO TRIBE!!
