2016 has certainly been an interesting year. Unless you've been living under a rock for most of it, (which after looking at the upcoming presidential election might not be such a bad idea), you've probably been pretty surprised by the events of the year. We have a businessman/ reality TV star running for president, Brangelina broke up, the Cavaliers won the NBA championship over the favored Warriors, and now a very old curse has been broken in Chicago. I'm sure it was hard to miss the news, but the Chicago Cubs are finally going back to the World Series.

Earlier this year I wrote an article about how 2016 would be a great year for Cub's fans, and it looks like our dreams have finally come true. A person would have to be at least 71 years old to have been alive the last time that Cubbie blue battled it out for a World Series title. Only people who are at least 108 years old would've been alive the last time the Cubs won the World Series, so virtually no one was alive to see them live. Many people attribute this pennant drought to a certain curse caused by a certain animal. In 1945 at Game 4 of the World Series, Billy Sianis declared " they ain't gonna win no more" after he was asked to leave because his pet goat was a bother other fans. Of course, there have been many other incidents that contributed to this drought, such as Steve Bartman or a series lack of a good bullpen.

Whatever the cause, fans have stuck by the Cubs's side through everything. They watched Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg, Mark Grace, and Greg Maddux try to take the Cubs back to the World Stage. Fans have suffered through Carols Zambrano's countless temper tantrums. They've cheered while watching home runs fly off the bat of Sammy Sosa, and now the Bryzzo duo. Cubs fans have truly seen all the good, all the bad, and all of the really ugly.

A World Series appearance may have started to look as if it was just out of reach when the Cubs were shutout in Games 2 and 3 of the NLCS by Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill. However, you can bet Cubs fans didn't lose hope. Instead, they rallied behind their team and watched as they the offense rebounded strongly in Games 4 and 5. Game 6 was highly anticipated when Kershaw would be back on the mound. However this time the Cubs were the ones who shut out the Dodgers. Kyle Hendricks gave up just 2 hits and pitched into the 8th inning; Kershaw was removed in the 5th.

So here we are 71 years later getting ready to begin another World Series, however, this one seems more special. This team shows incredible perseverance on and off the field. When errors or losses happen you never see it etched in their faces; instead a fierce determination to improve is seen. Kyle Schwarber may be returning to the roster after being on the DL all season. Javier Baez is having the game of his life every game. Russell, Bryant, Rizzo, and Fowler have all returned to their usual power hitting routines. The World Series will begin Tuesday, October 25 and the Cubs will face the Cleveland Indians, another team who is facing a World Series drought. This World Series looks to be an exciting one. GO CUBS GO!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
