Happy Holidays! Walk into any store right now and you will see tons of red and green along with hearing the oh so joyous sounds of Christmas music. Yes, everyone’s favorite time of year is coming but don’t forget we have to get through Thanksgiving first. Thanksgiving. The time of the year where we gather at grandmaw’s house enjoying delicious food while everyone talks about how thankful they are to be alive and surrounded by loved ones. But what are college students really thankful for?
1. Free stuff
Free samples in the mall, free shirts at school (although we all know it’s actually included in our tuition), free food from your job; college students love anything free. Tuition is sky high and rent isn’t exactly cheap either. Whenever college students get a break from having to spend their money, we WILL take advantage of it.
2. Assignment Extension Dates
Procrastination- something that no college student wants to admit to doing but unfortunately we all do it anyway. A lot of us tend to wait until a couple of nights before to start a huge paper so whenever a teacher extends a due date until the next class period it is a huge relief. Just make sure you take advantage of that extension and don’t procrastinate even more.
3.Class Cancellation Emails
In college, the only thing that’s as good as an extension on an assignment is a cancelled class. The only stipulation is that there MUST either be an email sent or a notice in advance. Nobody likes to go on campus for their only class of the day only to find a note on the door saying it’s cancelled.
4.Alone Time
Sure, in college you like to meet new people and socialize, but there is nothing like alone time. After being busy all week with school, work, and my internship, the only thing I want to do on a free Sunday is spend some time alone. Whether you’re in bed catching up on Netflix or treating yourself to some shopping, it’s nice having time to yourself to relieve stress.
5.Having somebody to talk to
Although that alone time is great, it is essential for a college student to have somebody talk to. Relative, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, coworker…whoever it may be, college students need that one person. We need somebody we can call if we need to cry about the exam we just failed, if we want to talk about the exam we just aced, or if we just want a good conversation to take a break from studying.
6. Thanksgiving leftovers to take back to school
Leftovers! I used to hate leftovers when I lived at home but now I cherish them (well…. sometimes). Cooking isn’t exactly my favorite thing, especially after a long day , so getting to simply take food out of the fridge and heat it up sounds perfect to me. Even though I complain about all the leftovers my mom makes me take home, I will be grateful for them as the week goes by.
