With Valentine’s Day just passing I’m sure that we will be seeing a lot of articles about love and things of that nature. To start off with I will tell you a little bit about my story. Cassie and I started dating when I was a senior in high school and she was a freshman. I noticed her in my study hall and one day she was crying before Thanksgiving break and instead of being a man and talking to her in person I chose the wait till after school and message her on Facebook route. One thing led to another and here we are over three years later and I can honestly say I’ve never been happier. Being with her has been some of the most amazing times of my life and I have learned a lot from our relationship.
The most important thing that I think I have learned from our relationship is to be open to new things and learn a little bit about it before you judge it. For instance, before we started dating I was never into fashion because I thought it would make me “gay” to look nice. I realized quickly that was a stupid way of thinking and am now happier with my personal appearance than ever. This is because after we were dating for a little while she got more into fashion so because she looked nice all the time I wanted to look nice all the time. It was something I started to impress her more and is now one of my guilty pleasures. Along with fashion, I have also learned to enjoy things that may have been more of her interests than mine when we started dating. A prime example of this is art. The only art that I have ever been any good at is ceramics, so making bowls and vases, that sort of thing. I never really had an appreciation for drawings or paintings but once I saw her go through the process of her creating her art and understanding that if you understand the story behind the painting it is a lot more interesting. Now that I have developed an interest for art we have been to several art museums and they have been some of the best dates we have ever had. Growing to appreciate your significant other's interests is crucial to having fun and enjoying the time you all spend together.
Something that seems to be one of the foundations of our relationship is the idea of “Everything happens for a reason”. Since day one when my mom asked me if I was sure I wanted to date a freshman I remember saying to her if it happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. Obviously, it did so that’s why I’m here writing this today. Everything that has happened in our relationship whether good or bad I believe has happened for a reason. I almost lost her in a really bad car accident on Thanksgiving of 2015 and I can remember thinking two things when I got the call that she was being life-flighted to Cleveland. 1.) Please do not take the girl I am going to spend the rest of my life with away from me. And 2.) Why is this happening? I have never been more scared in my life but looking back I think that it only brought us closer together. I can assure you it has made me appreciate every single moment I have had with her since then and reminds me to take nothing for granted.
One thing I think that everyone should know is that no matter what anyone says I don’t believe you are ever too young to love someone or find the “one” that you belong with. I firmly believe that I am going to spend the rest of my life with Cassie and I believe that anyone that knows us believes that as well. I got lucky and found her at a very young age and that is why I think it is wrong for people to tell anyone that their relationship will not last because of their age. I can say that for the most part, everyone that we have been around having been positive but I know that is not the case for everyone. That is why I’m here to say if you feel it is worth it, go for it. There are going to be people that do not want to see you happy regardless of anything and all that matters is that you’re happy. There are tons of things that I could write about but I think I will end it here.
