Our generation knows that nothing beats a Netflix marathon, especially when you have a million other things to do instead. There's just something wonderful about putting off your priorities to squeeze in one more episode. It's embarrassing to admit, but we all at some point have spent hours in front of our computers, too lazy to get up for anything but snacks. So, what makes this experience so wonderful? What do all of these shows have in common that make us scream for more? Why is it, that these TV series have us putting off our major priorities? Well, they all have a few things in common.
1. They all have characters that we want to be best friends with in real life.
Each show has those characters that capture your heart and make you want to know them in real life. You find yourself obsessing over each one and can't tell if you want to be friends with them or be them.
2. They all have an OTP (one true pair) that you ship so hard.
There is always a couple you fight for. Of course, they have problems and normally don't get together until like season four, but you love them from the very beginning.
3. They all allow you to escape from your daily struggles and forget your obligations.
You skip hours of work to make time for your show. They have the ability to make you forget what you are supposed to be doing because you are so wrapped up in the story. They let you escape reality.
4. They make you laugh and cry.
Your emotional stability depends on the show and the characters. If something goes wrong, you fall into a deep state of depression. You feel the events in the show very deeply.
5. They have characters that progress and change.
The characters change so much that when you go back to the early seasons, you barely recognize them. You become a proud fan when you see how much they change and develop. You get to see your teenage favorites survive puberty, your villains become heroes and your favorite couples finally get their acts together.
6. There is, at least, one character that you want to trade lives with.
There's always one character that you idolize. Whether it be their relationship, their job, or their awesome personality and sense of humor, there is always one character that you would love to be.
7. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger that makes you watch just "one" more.
Netflix knows nothing of your priorities and that sneaky "Episode will start in 15 seconds" trick gets you hooked each time. You can't help but watch one more, especially when the show ends with an "OMG WHAT" moment.
8. They make you miss the characters and their towns when you aren't watching.
You have become so addicted because these shows are so good, that when you aren't watching them, you actually miss it. You miss the characters and their lives and this is the true sign that you have a problem. But it also means you have stumbled upon yet another, binge-worthy Netflix show.
