Life. It's something we all experience. It's also something we take for granted. We truly don't know how blessed we are to be on this planet. We don't know how blessed we are to be breathing, taking a step forward every day. Some of us just sit and do nothing with our lives, why doesn't everyone try to do something? Life isn't something that can happen for a second time, there are no "second chances" at life. We grow old, pass on, and then someone new comes into this world to take our place. If you're not "famous", you're not remembered. Brutal, I know. But why sit around and do nothing? Get up and do something.
Start by going to school, getting a degree or going into a trade. Start off small in a job and work your way up. Save money, (some of what you earn) and spend some. When you're steady on your feet, explore the world. Explore everything this earth has to offer you. There are some beautiful places everywhere you look, starting with your hometown. Long Island has so many beautiful parks and beaches that you could be busy for days just walking through the woods and coming in contact with a deer or a fox. Capture all the beauty of nature and keep your mind open to new things. Experience different cultures, try some new food or travel to a country with a completely different culture.
Some say money can't buy you happiness, I beg to differ. Last time I checked, money could buy me and a pal a plane ticket to anywhere in the world and I could create memories there that could last a lifetime. That's happiness to me.
Make new friends. Just because someone's style doesn't match yours doesn't mean that they don't have a great personality. You have to look inside a person to truly understand who they are. It isn't every day that you run into someone new. Don't take those moments for granted, you'll miss out on someone special.
What made me realize how short life is was when I was sitting on the tailgate of my boyfriend's truck at the drive-on beach and I was watching him fish. I watched the waves slam down onto the shore and I realized that this isn't going to last forever. Watching the waves crash is just something that will pass us by, but once we're gone, they'll still be crashing on the shore.
Don't take life for granted, enjoy the little moments. The small things in life are the ones that should count the most. The small friendly gestures that someone may place onto you, whether it's holding the door or just a simple smile. Life is what you make it, and I hope you make it the best it can be.
