Ways to Make Your Dad Feel Special This Father's Day

As someone who was raised by their father, Father's Day has naturally become one of my favorite holidays. It is the day where I can celebrate my dad and everything he has done for me. I wouldn't be where I am today, without him.

I feel like most people miss how important Father's Day is in today's society. We tend to value our mothers more. But for someone like me who grew up without a mother, I found a lot of joy and contentment in being able to celebrate my one parent.

My dad is a one of a kind dad. I consider him to be a role model and amazing in many ways. He has been one of the most hardworking people I have ever seen. I still remember how devoted he has always been to make sure the people around him and his family are okay, while also working hard to support us. If I had to pick one thing in particular to celebrate about my dad, it would most definitely be the fact that he is hardworking and optimistic in everything he does. He always has a smile on his face and reminds me that he is fine, even when he might not be. He easily became someone I will look up to for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately, it is still quarantine and that makes it difficult for us to truly celebrate how much our dads mean to us. There are still signs and zones for us to be cautious about, such as celebrating where there is a lot of people, such as the beach, or the pool, etc. These places may not be the most ideal place to celebrate, even though Father's Day does take place in the summer. Although some restrictions may have been lifted in certain areas, they shouldn't eliminate the fact that COVID does still exist and that we still need to be careful. Even if we are trying to celebrate such a special day, we still have to walk on certain eggshells to avoid potential cuts and bruises, when it comes to trying to protect ourselves from COVID.

Here are some ways you can spark up your father's day with your dad:

-Knit a cute sweater or a pair of socks- No one can say "no" to some homemade gifts.Make this Father's Day extra special by preparing a nice piece of handmade clothing for your dad. It can be made out of anything you like, as long as it has a material called "fatherly love" in it.

-Make your own puzzle (crossword, word search, etc)- Make a puzzle for your dad to do while he waits for you to bring the father's day gift out (Or this can be part of the gift itself). Include words in the puzzle that describe your dad and the way you see him and limit it to at least 50 words to find in the crossword or word search. You want to make sure your dad is extra prepared before he receives his gift!

-Decorate your own balloons for Father's Day-Yes, it's obviously not a 21st birthday party or a New Year's Party where it is the trend for people to decorate their walls using sheer gold or aluminum silver balloons. But, that doesn't mean those can't be used for Father's Day! Be a bit more creative and use some traditional masculine colors like shades of blue to decorate the balloons and make them extra shiny and cute.

Father's Day might be different again this year, but that doesn't mean it can't exist fully...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
