Ways To Exfoliate Your Heart

Have you ever had the feeling that you were sad for no reason? Or have a sudden heavy feeling in your chest? I think everyone has had this feeling. It comes out of nowhere. You are fine and then suddenly it feels as though gravity intensified for a bit as you feel heavy. This feeling sometimes plagues me at the worst of times, so I have found ways to combat it. I fight it by exfoliating my heart. By doing simple things that make me happy, I am able to chip away at the negatively that suddenly wrapped itself around my heart and thoughts. So here are a few ways you may be able to exfoliate your heart and leave that feeling behind.

Buy yourself flowers.

It sounds simple, but people aren't lying when they say nature heals everything. Show yourself some love with flowers.

Put on the comfiest outfit you own.

Throw on the comfiest pieces of clothing that you own. For me, I love over-sized sweaters, so putting on leggings, fuzzy socks and an over-sized sweater can make me feel better and feel like a walking blanket at the same time.

Paint.

You DO NOT have to be a painter to paint. It doesn't matter if your Picasso or if you are literally just painting a piece of paper one color. Just the act of painting is therapeutic.

Clean your desk, your room, your backpack or anything.

Even if all you did was clean out your backpack, you are de-cluttering your mind and your backpack at the same time.

Go for a walk or a run.

I love running, but if you don't want to run, go on a walk. When I run, the thoughts that previously hounded my mind fade and I only focus on my steps and my breathing.

Write.

Writing when your heart is heavy is probably my favorite activity. By putting your thoughts into writing, you are able to get them out. Whether you keep the thoughts or simply crumple them up and throw it away, the thoughts are out of your system. Sometimes the best person to talk to is yourself.

Just like you keep your skin clean, sometimes you have to keep your heart and thoughts clean too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
