You shouldn't.
Oh, sorry. I answered that before I even gave my massive exposition on it, but I digress.
Recently, Wattpad, a massive website that allows independent creators to flex their ideas to the public while copyrighting their works simultaneously, just announced that they added a premium option. It is a very interesting concept. Premium on Wattpad? Why is that a thing? I don't pay for it at all in the first place, and why would I start paying now?
Basically, Wattpad says you will be paying for the ability to not have ads on your pages.
That...
That's about it.
Wattpad is a great site. However, the amount of ad revenue they take in to keep themselves afloat is actually enough in the first place. I'm all for supporting the website, but for the average consumer, this is not something you would put on a pedestal like a Netflix subscription of an Xbox LIVE membership. The benefits do not really outweigh the costs. It is sad, actually.
In turn, Wattpad should revamp their subscription service. Maybe partner with some publishing companies like Scholastic and add digital book rewards every month you go premium, and exclusive patroning to your favorite independent creators, turning Wattpad into a space that really supports the independent creator. Then I would pay premium.
