It's that time of year again! Every year on the first Sunday of February, the families of America gather to watch the biggest football game of the year. For many, it is the only game they will watch. It is also the one day a year people are excited about commercials. The halftime show is also a phenomenon in and of itself, along with the tasty snacks and fun minute-to-win-it games some enjoy and others avoid like the plague. So, for those of us who are less sports-savy and perhaps don't even watch the Super Bowl, what's the big deal? How have we had 53 of these? And, what do we need to know? Here's everything you need to know about Super Bowl 2019 airing February 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
Who’s playing?
This year it's the New England Patriots (again) vs. the Los Angeles Rams. Here's a list of the past 53 years of winners.

The Halftime Show has long been one of the top viewed performances of the year, and it is the dream of many artists to perform in it. This year it will be Maroon 5, joined by Travis Scott and Big Boi.
How it all started.
It all started with a good-old-fashioned rivalry between the NFL (National Football League) and the AFL (American Football League). The AFL started back in the late 1950s and became a problem for the NFL when they started stealing really good players. As a result, they decided to compete with each other to see who was really the best. In the beginning, the NFL demolished the AFL, but with time that began to change.
It hasn't always been called the Super Bowl.
It wasn't until the fourth year that it finally got it's famous name. It also didn't start growing to the level of popularity it's at today until around then.
It wasn't always the first Sunday in February.
Prior to 2002, the Super Bowl was always the last Sunday in January. So what changed? After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, America's TV schedule was pushed forward a week. As a result, the Super Bowl was held on February 3rd, 2002. It has been on the first Sunday in February every year since.
Food is super important!
As anyone who has ever had a Superbowl party can tell you, the snacks and food are just important as having a good TV. Along with the classics of chips and dip, soda, and desserts, here are some tasty dishes you can serve.
Commercials: What to look out for.
Everyone loves the Super Bowl commercials. The reason? It's extremely expensive to have a commercial in the Super Bowl, but the over 100 million viewers make the investment worth it for companies. With that much invested though, they want to make it count. So, what kind of commercials can we expect this year? In the past, I've always enjoyed funny ones, and this year looks promising. With a Skittles musical, Disney, and the Backstreet Boys all scheduled to make appearances, this year is looking to be pretty amusing indeed.
