With roughly twenty games left to go in the regular season, most fans can agree that this season has been nothing short of entertaining. Even this year’s All-Star weekend is being considered one of the greatest within the past ten years. It included an electrifying three-point contest showdown, an exhilarating dunk contest and even Kobe Bryant’s last All-Star game, following his retirement. But with the regular season coming to a close, most eyes rest on the Golden State Warriors. A Fan base of millions across the globe is waiting to see if the Warriors can surpass the best record in NBA history, which is held by Jordan’s “95-96” Chicago Bulls, with an unconceivable record of 72 wins and only ten loses. At this point in the season the Warriors hold the best record in the NBA with 52 wins and only five loses.
There’s a multitude of factors that come into play as to why the defending champion Warriors are so unstoppable. Obviously having the league’s raining MVP, Steph Curry, on your team helps, but the genuine explanation is their team’s depth and consistency to stay healthy. The Warriors’ roster is stacked, with size at all positions and a variety of players that are capable of taking on larger roles. The Warriors depth allows them to stretch out the floor and basically put out any line-up their opponent calls for. They can go small and drastically change the tempo of the game, or they can play big where they get the ball down low and dish it out to a wide open Steph Curry or Clay Thompson three. During a long 82 game season injuries are inevitable, but not with the Warriors. Being able to play your best players game in and game out is a vast advantage.
Over the past few seasons Steph Curry has become the face of the NBA. Breaking record after record, including most three pointers in a season, most consecutive games with making at least one three pointer, scoring the most three pointers in back to back years and so many more. Curry has become a dominant force in the NBA and is a major reason why the Warriors are able to stay on top in the standings. Curry’s ability to score in the paint due to his speed and his ability to score from almost anywhere on the court is what makes him such a prevailing force. Curry is also a factor on defense, averaging nearly two steals a game and having the ability to guard some of the best point guards in the league. Curry leads in most MVP rankings; this would make the NBA champ a two time MVP if he were to win it again this season.
With the playoffs approaching, I definitely see the Warriors making it back to the NBA Finals. But with teams such as the Spurs and Clippers in their conference, it’ll definitely be a challenge. As for earning the best record in NBA history, it’s absolutely within reach. With only a handful of games left and a margin of error of only four games, it’ll certainly be a challenge, but if any team can do it, it’s without a doubt, the Golden State Warriors.
