There’s no better feeling than waking up on game day.
Game days are what get college student athletes through their school year. We look forward to game day every single week.
After hours and months of practice, every athlete has the thought in their mind, “Is it game day yet? I am ready to suit up with my squad”.
Athletes live for the feeling of waking up in the morning, and knowing you have the opportunity to compete. The chance to use your God gifted ability and fight for a win in the sport you love to play.
The excitement and butterflies that fills your body takes over, as you realize this is the time to show what it’s all about. The blood, sweat, and tears throughout the year are going to pay off on game days. The days growing up telling your friends, “I can’t a have practice” or “I can’t I have games”, all starts to pay off now. You realize that those sacrifices were worth the feeling of being able to have game days throughout your college years. It is so worth knowing you have an opportunity to compete for something that is way bigger than yourself, because that feeling is indescribable. You have the chance to fight for your teammates, your coaches, your family, your school, and your town. It is a feeling that can never be replaced. Always play for something bigger than yourself.
As you walk up to the ballpark on game day you take in the bright green, evenly mowed, grass. The smell of fresh painted chalk lines, on the dirt, fills the air. Hearing the chatter and support of fans sitting in the stands before game time, puts a smile on your face. The sight of the American flag waving in the breeze sets the scene for game day.
Seeing the rival team roll up to the field, in confidence, thinking they have a chance to beat you, fuels a fire inside the relentless athlete.
The feeling you get when see your jersey hanging in your locker, with the family name you are representing on the back, and the state or town you are representing on the front is irreplaceable. It’s a reminder of that little kid inside of you picking up a bat or ball for the first time years ago.
You put on your uniform and look in the mirror and say, “What a great day to be an athlete.”
Minutes before game time you’re completely focused and relatively quiet. While you’re lost in your own world visualizing yourself playing and succeeding in the game right before you.
The rosters are announced and we honor America with the National Anthem. You come together for one last team huddle before taking the field, and all the competitiveness and fight fills your body. Your team has the demeanor of now is the time to get the job done.
Stepping in between the two white lines and knowing you and your teammates are going to leave everything you have on the field for the next seven innings is what we live for.
It’s going to be me and mine vs. you and yours.
Lets play ball!
