Before you read this, I'd like for you to know that while I am heavily influenced by my fellow millennials and young voters, I'm a registered independent who tends to vote more Republican but will never vote straight ticket. And while I do tend to vote more republican, I'm not racist, homophobic, or anti-feminism. I believe that there's more to the Republican party than telling people who they can and cannot marry, and I have watched every GOP debate this election, and done extensive research on who I will choose to vote for.
Having said all of these things, who I choose to vote for will not go by the name of "Donald Trump." I get it, he upholds a pretty impressive background in finances, and is most likely much better at owning a business than I will ever be (despite him going bankrupt four times).
But is that really how we'd like to run America? As a business? As if we are all customers waiting for the government to serve us? And if it is, do you really want it to be from someone who could refuse service to a customer (i.e his public phobia of Muslims) because of the actions of a few?
I also can't get past the argument of my fellow members of the Grand Ol' Party that say Trump is qualified or even worse, the most qualified candidate. Of all of the other candidates, he is by far the most unqualified. He has little to no political experience, and often speaks about his plans (like his plan to end birthright citizenship) which coincidentally, go against the constitution (the 14th amendment to be exact). And speaking of unqualified... he never actually states how he will execute his plans. He says things like "lets replace Obamacare with something better" but never actually gives us an idea of what will be better. I'm all for a different plan, but if the name for your plan is "Make America Great Again" without the way to do it, I can't help but to think that not only are you under-qualified, but that you are also all talk and nothing more.
Beyond his experience with finances, he's not the most intelligent man. I mean seriously, beyond finances, what does he know? Since he doesn't have much experience in politics, and he doesn't know much about science, how could we ever expect him to make an educated decision on funding Stem Cell Research, one of the most controversial topics discussed by members of the republican party?
He's good at winning things. He's competitive. He's got drive, but his drive is to prove his dominance. And is that really something we want in a president? Do we want someone that can prove that they can win a race, or someone that can prove they can help America, speak diplomatically in representing all citizens, and uphold the values America was built on?
Overall, Trump is truly not diplomatic enough to serve our country, "home of the free, land of the brave." Maybe it's because of his comment that "they are rapists" (in regards to Mexican immigrants on June 16th, 2015) even though 52 percent of rapes are committed by white males, or maybe it's because of his outdated hairstyle, but I can't in my right mind vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. If it comes down to Trump being the candidate for the Republican party, I would rather vote for a third party ticket, a more educated candidate, or not at all. Although I'm not feeling the Bern, I'm definitely not feeling Donald Trump, his bigotry, his cockiness, or his toupee.
