Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. The Delta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi came to The University of Texas at Austin in 1906, making it the oldest surviving chapter of this sorority at the University. Alpha Delta Pi has over 235,000 women in more than 151 active collegiate chapters.
The philanthropic events Alpha Delta Pi hosts goes towards the Ronald McDonald House Charities, their national service project. Since its adoption in 1979, Alpha Delta Pi has raised about $4 million for this charity. The Delta chapter is fortunate to be only ten minutes away from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin and Central Texas, where they do a plethora of volunteer work at this location. A unique aspect of this chapter is that each weekly meeting, the sisters set aside time to make healthy snack bags for the families at the Ronald McDonald House.
DeWitt Clinton Baker built the Baker house in 1871. In 1968, the Alpha Delta Pi Delta chapter purchased the house, and in 1971, a historical marker was dedicated to this property, stating that this Texas historical landmark can never be demolished.
The Alpha Delta Pi house is conveniently located in West Campus and is blocks away from the other sorority houses at UT Austin. The first floor of this mansion holds a front parlor, dining room, elephant room, two additional living rooms, and an enclosed porch. The house also includes two verandas, a sundeck, a swimming pool, a courtyard, a side yard, and gated parking for residents. The second and third floors contain twenty-six bedrooms, which currently house two girls each. Their private chefs provide daily meals, and room-cleaning service is provided weekly.
