With Donald Trump being the official new President of the U.S, protests have erupted throughout the country. Some individuals fear checks and balances will not be as effective throughout the next four years as it has in the past. So here is a list of organizations to support because they will work to fight against many of Trump's proposed plans.

1. Planned Parenthood

This organization has been around for 100 years with the intentions of supplying women with information and necessary care. They offer STD testing and treatment, contraception, cancer screenings and prevention, pregnancy tests, prenatal services and some locations have abortion services. Trump has promised to defund this organization, but they vow to stay open no matter what.

2. The Center For Reproductive Rights

This is a legal advocacy organization who works to defend as well as strengthen laws and policies revolving around reproductive rights and women's health care.

3. GreenPeace

Trump once tweeted he believed global warming was a hoax created by the Chinese and appointed Myron Ebell (a climate change denier) as head of his EPA transition team.

This organization lobbies against and researches environmental problems including commercial whaling and climate change.

4. Natural Resources Defense Council

This organization has a combination of lawyers, scientists as well as other policy efforts. They have climate change as the forefront of their concerns.

5. The National Immigration Law Center

When President Trump initially ran for office, he promised to build a wall on the border between Mexico and the U.S. He also vowed to deport all undocumented immigrants.

The National Immigration Law Center woks to defend the rights of low-income immigrants and does policy work on issues such as health care, worker's rights and legal status for immigration youth.

6. The American Civil Liberties Union

This organization provides legal assistance in cases where civil liberties are at risk. The American Civil Liberties Union consists of the ACLU where donations go toward lobbying for civil liberties and the ACLU Foundation in which donations don't go toward legislative purposes.

8. The Trevor project

Vice President Mike Pence has supported "conversion therapy", signed the "religious liberty" law which allowed businesses to openly discriminate against LGBTQ individuals and made the claim same sex marriage would lead to "societal collapse."

This is an organization which focuses on suicide prevention within the LGBTQ community. they provide the "Trevor Lifeline" which is a confidential call service with counselors for those in need.

9. Human Rights Campaign

HRC represents more than 1.5 million supporters as well as members nationwide. They are the largest network for the civil rights of the LGBTQ community in the U.S. They work to promote and fight for the community to have equal rights.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating.
