The officers initially responded to the scene for a noise complaint. At 3:19 a.m. on Sunday, police officers arrived at the apartment, and eventually entered forcefully. The students were then dragged out of the apartment. One student was tased, and the two others were allegedly injured by the officers.

On Monday afternoon, Tuscaloosa Police Department Chief of Police, Steven D. Anderson, held a press conference where he addressed issues pertaining to the case, including the arrests of three University of Alabama students.
Matthew Gimlin Macia, 22, was arrested on charges of obstructing governmental operations and resisting arrest. Brandon James Williford, 21, was arrested on charges of obstructing governmental operations, harassment, and resisting arrest. Caroline Elizabeth Giddis, 22, was arrested on charges of obstructing governmental operations and harassment.
“Needless to say, once I started receiving the videos and watching what occurred, I was deeply disturbed and disappointed in how our officers responded,” Chief Anderson said. "An internal investigation will be conducted on the actions of the police officers to determine if any 'policies, procedures, or laws were violated.'”
Chief Anderson asks that people be patient in their investigation, as there are large amounts of video evidence to view.
Three officers are now placed on administrative leave. Chief Anderson confirmed the initial officer who responded has been with the department for eight years, the officer using the taser for 12 years, and the officer with the baton for two years.
Information has also been released that the police officers were wearing body cameras, and the investigation would also include reviewing that footage.
Chief Steven D. Anderson of the Tuscaloosa Police Department released a statement naming Officer James Kent, Officer Phillip Champion and Officer Gregory Pimm as the officers placed on administrative leave pending further investigation into their actions.
