For most of us, college has changed us in many ways. One of the biggest is our style. We're no longer at the age where Mom and Dad are buying the majority of our wardrobe! If you're like me, you want to spend the majority of your money on new clothes, however, that is hard to do when you also have other expenses to think of and pay for, of course! So here are some helpful hints and little tricks I've learned that may help you as well!
1. Two words: Plato's Closet
While I have never really thought about Plato's, I recently started going there last semester! And it actually has paid off—literally. While my style has changed, I realized I didn't wear half the clothes in my closet anymore, so I took them to Plato's just to see what would happen! I ended up making around $70! But that's not al—when I was waiting on them to go through my clothes, I started looking around. I found a pair of Miss Me Jeans for $26! At first, I started looking them up and down to see what was wrong with them, but I couldn't find anything! I can tell you that $26 is a lot better than $140—so check out Plato's if you haven't already, I promise it'll be worth your while!
2. The Mint app
Another thing I found helpful was this app called Mint. It is basically your budget in an app. You can link all your accounts and whatnot, so it shows you what exactly you are spending each month! It was pretty nice to see everything laid out. Once it showed me my monthly spending, I started setting budgets for myself—mainly to attempt to save some money. However, it has helped me get some of my paycheck into my savings account!
3. Pinterest
Most of you know what Pinterest is, so I won't get into that; however, if you are not as creative as I am, look at Pinterest for some wardrobe inspiration! You can find how to update your style with minimal spending! For instance, you can find a page where there are five pieces of clothing turned into 15 different outfits! That is something worth looking into!
4. Facebook
One of the most updated things on Facebook is the multiple boutiques with Facebook pages and links to their websites! Check them out! Like the page, and if you see something cute, look for a coupon code on the Facebook page before you order! Most of the items on there are decently priced, however a coupon never hurts!
5. The Poshmark app
This is where you can post things to sell as well as shop! There are some upscale items like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, etc, but you can also find Pink items and others decently priced! For Father's Day, I got my dad an authentic LV tie for $40—not bad at all! They also ship to your house! Most items are in excellent shape, so check it out before spending too much on a new purse!
Hopefully, those few hints are as helpful to you as they are to me! Trying to find a new style can be interesting and complicated! However it should never cost you a fortune—during your college years at least!
