5 Life Lesson #VolNation Gets From UTK Football, Win Or Lose

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville football team is a heartbreaking team to be a fan of and no one can fight me on this. We all have stood by this team and multiple coaches through the ups and downs and it has not been easy. However, I have realized I learned a lot of life lessons by being a UT football fan so I would like to shed some light on this rocky start to our season.

Failing Gracefully

Our football team fails. Often. From false starts to holes in the line our team makes lots of mistakes, but thanks to them I have learned how to fail gracefully. You just yell a whole lost for about 10 seconds and then move on and run the exact same play again.

You Don't Have To Win To Win

Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, any SEC, scratch that any team. We don't actually have to beat them at this point we just need to hold our own. Vol athletes, we love you and we are crazy! We don't care if you win as long as it isn't a blowout! This is a great message to translate into everyday life. You don't need a 4.0 or a 100 on every exam as long as you don't completely give up on life.

There Are Boys You Don't Want To Date

We have all witnessed boys way too drunk at football games and, after being at the season opener in Charlotte, North Carolina, I have realized I can never marry a man until I see how he acts when he is drunk and dehydrated at a UT football game. I witnessed so many inappropriate gestures and vulgar language that I never want to look at a UT male again.

Present Yourself Well On And Off The Field

This goes for football and for classes. If you go into a class and are prepared, ready to go, and interact with the professor you will do well in the class. However, if you have any professors that are really into teaching they will probably look into your social media or if they see you out of class they will come say hello, make sure all your social media is professional to a certain extent and if you talk to a teacher on the street make sure you are just as professional as you would be in class.

There Is Always Next Week

You fail a test or lose a game 0-48, just remember there is always next week! You can get a fresh start, for the most part, and try again after a nice weekend off.

Through football and school just remember you got this! You can conquer life the same way UT football will try to conquer this season.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
